This foretells misfortunes to come . . .

Someone should explain how both Americans and non-Americans can fight this.

The misfortunes were already told in "1984", read it and you will see how scary a place the world will become.

I've already signed against the act. It sucks because it wont matter how many names there are, as long as the big entertainment conglomerates want it done, they'll push the pen themselves. I truly am beginning to believe the only way to stop our country from becoming nothing is to kill everyone in Congress and start over. WAAAYYYY too much corruption. And that's just what I hear from my sister (she's an intern at some congressional building). I guess all we can do is cross our fingers ;_;

I swear, so many people on this site are so full of themselves. A lot seem to think they always have an "intelligent and/or logical" point or show signs of a superiority complex. They never admit they're wrong. Maybe partially, but excuses abound! :\

I didn't understand all the complicated clauses, legal jargon or technical terms, but since most scanlation groups are based in America (and I'm pretty sure this site is, too), if this clause is passed most of the manga scanlation, aggregation and information sites as well as anime info, downloading and fansubbing sites will go down in a flash because they're engaging in online piracy and copyright violation.
Meaning, the end result will be the same whether you live in or outside of the US. Passing of the SOPA = no manga or anime (and also music, movies, TV shows etc.)

Or another method is to type the blocked sites IP address into the address bar...

This whole thing is bogus and I'm happy to see that the articl about SOPA is up here. It means that more people are informed about this shitstorm that keeps brewing.

Oh, you didn't know? Well, before SOPA there were Internet Blacklist, Protect IP Act and one or two more similar bills.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xjisu18X6s7lPtAs IQg5Ol3KJjymPT2az1kasQVwGiw/mobilebasic?pli=1 - list of companies supporting this bill.

I also suggest for you guys to read the wiki article on SOPA so you could have a better understanding of what happens if it passes.

People don't need to worry, it can easily be evaded with a vpn or proxy.
And the only sites that could get problems are bigger sites, those online-readers lose a lot of traffic and off course their adds disappear confused , they will be destroyed. The scanlation groups wouldn't have that much trouble, they are rather small (difficult to find) and they've still got irc.
The anime fansub groups would have trouble on the other hand, everything that is streamed will be difficult to distribute certainly torrent sites would get it difficult (I guess they made the law for torrent sites).
The positive point is that the license holders would have more difficulties to find all those sites.
It becomes like in Malaysia, but then on a larger scale. sad

If all they do is delete the site reference from the DNS server, then yes it will work. But I doubt it would go like that, and the site would die in mater of days (no viewers no reason to stay online).
