I'm pretty sure at least half our country think its starting to suck. Might as well split the country down the middle. West U.S. for the future, and East U.S. for those who want to stick with the present. All I know is they're f#cking with my future. If SOPA passes, SOPA is only the beginning.

Before making blanket statements regarding East vs. West, you might do well to check who's supporting the bill in question (unfortunately, the list is rather long): the bill was introduced by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), and is currently co-sponsored by 31 representatives, including 8 representatives from California, as well as representatives from Nevada, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico. The support is hardly limited to one side of the country.

I do not actually know. Maybe Texas? Probably somewhere in the U.S.
I didn't think of that. Boy, I hope those 'NOEZ' f*gs get hit hard as a result.
It would be the only good thing coming out of this bill.

Well, at the end of the day, this an information database; it doesn't actually host copyrighted material, unlike online readers or streaming websites, for example. The worst thing I can imagine happening to Baka-Updates is to be forced to remove links to scanlation groups (which, come to think of it, is the main purpose of the website -_-' ), becoming more similar to Anime-Planet, MyAnimeList, AniDB, and the lot that doesn't have release information.
However, the worse damage is indirect and wider. The U.S. alone has over 320+ million people, and when they suddenly stop viewing anime and manga, it is going to have an effect. Couple that with possible laws like this one as well in the future, perhaps coming from Canada and the European Union, too, and you may get a worldwide decline of (at least visible) interest in this part of Japanese indusrty.
By the way, 'Stop Online Piracy Act' and 'ThePirateBay': Sound related? Probably.
Well, at least MegaUpload has officially joined the ranks of opposition towards this bill recently after having their videos of signed artists, like P. Diddy and Kim Kardashian, singing their praise unrightfully removed by Universal from YouTube. I can't imagine the SOPA's being any good for them either.

This bill will not affect other countries except america. Other countries will not follow their laws blindly. They will easily bypass this law by using their own dns system.
Like chinese censorship won't work in other countries , American censorship won't work in foreign countries.

Nah, he's in China and as long as China refuse to stop piracy...it won't. Of course as soon as they do...I hope they get him first, put him in jail, takes him money away for themselves, and then torture him to death. Seriously that would be cool

errr... lemme tell you something funny about the West. If America does it then it's cool and we should do it too.
America wants a dude from us and we take away their rights and turn them in, without giving a damn. They did that with a mother to a child since she was accused for taking drugs into usa...something that her bf---at that time---did and then made a deal with the government to sell out everyone, even false ones. The other was handed to them in 24 hours and the rest of this country went: WTF!
but that's reality...you should know how much power america got to affect other countries in the west...to e.g. wage war with other countries in the name of freedom, justice and hunt of terrorists

I have always wondered what it would be like to threaten a government that tries something like this, that if the laws get passed, that there will be so many legitimate copyright infringement complaints logged at every governmental site there is, ( these can be for almost an image/photo that someone can lay claim to being the owner of, quote's that a person did not want made public, anything that could look like plagiarism or deformation, etc...). This could also extend into charity and religious organizations.

Isn't that how it is with everything?
