Reborn isn't even being distributed in the US anymore. VIZ killed it pretty bad by making it a gag manga and kept it up and even then fans were buying it and laughing at the mistakes and posting it up on the internet about how horrible the translations were...but they were still buying it.

Then VIZ decided to kill it.

It's just like with network television the corporations just care about the money and don't care about the actual product. When it makes less than what their exaggerated estimates were then they kill it and write it off as a business loss to use for tax deductions. How else do you think GE paid 10 dollars in taxes one year?

I wonder how much VIZ pays in taxes. How many deductions do they get for these 'failed' series.

I'm just tired of investing myself and my money and the series being canceled or delayed. I'm not a millionaire and I already have over a thousand manga volumes. Over half of which are failed series.

So I'm pretty pissed at all this 'copyright infringement' bullshit. The MPAA/RIAA MAFIAA created a law, paid the lawmakers off, and got it passed so they can shut down their competition. Illegal? Theft?

Also over 1/3 of ALL DMCA notices are fraudulently made and are used to snuff out the competition. That is extortion.

Technically speaking translating a work and editing it and cleaning it can fit under Fair Use by art and literary means as it is a TRANSFORMATIVE work. People just argue on how much you need to change a source material for it to no longer be qualified under stringent 'copyright' and fits under Fair Use. The fact that no one is charging for the work can also be said to follow under education means...since the internet is technically an international library.

I think there was a lawsuit once over this book that was translated and the original publisher wanted to kill it but the one that did the translation actually fought it and won in a court of law. But it was also a MAJOR corporation backed publisher.

Then again with ACTA Fair Use and a whole lot of other protections against being called a 'thief' are being torn away. Unless you got the money to buy a new law. After all, our congress is a bought congress.

Any and all chance of a Fair Use claim is thrown out the window as soon as the scanlating groups release the full manga art.

If it was purely the transcription, then the court may find in your favour. There is no grey area when it comes to redistributing the entirety of the original work.

I wish people would stop pretending about the legality of Scanlation.
