I recently read Battle Royale and thought it was extremely violent. Now I want to read Ichi the Killer and I heard that it's also very violent. How would you compare the violenc to Battle Royale?

Ichi is more sex orientated, you should be fine if you didn't mind that scene with mitsuko (is that her name? xD). It's been a while since i read both, but i remember battle royale being less realistic, particularly things like people being shot, the bullet holes. Ichi has less violence (partly because it's shorter), but it is more gory. The situations are also a little more... adult.

Hmm... reading Battle Royale on the bus could get you an interested kid peeping over your shoulder. Reading Ichi the Killer would get that old lady on the other side considering phoning the police.

If Ichi the killer has a lot of sex, I'm reading it no matter how much violence it has. Thanks for answering my question.

There is sex, but it's more fetish inclined, with a focus on bdsm. xD

Some of it is not pretty ;)

oh. Well, I'll still read it anyway. Might watch the movie too if I can find it.

Did you know that when the movie first premiered, the people selling tickets gave people barf bags as a joke? That was completely random, but I thought it was a nice piece of trivia. Now enjoy that useless knowledge before you forget it.

I have postponed reading Ichi for quite some time because I thought I couldn't stomach another weird one but you have managed to make it sound really interesting smile wink grin

I haven't read the manga version yet (although now I want to), but your post about the movie triggered something in my feeble brain and I realized that I've already inadvertently seen the movie (along with Miike's Visitor Q and Gozu).

From what everyone describes of the manga, I'd have to say that the movie is a little tame (or maybe I've become desensitized). There's plenty of graphic violence, but it's a little on the outrageous/unbelieveable sort. The BDSM is really played down, too. Overall though, it was interesting and worth the watch. Probably even better if you've read the manga.

Wish I could say the same about Visitor Q and Gozu:
Gozu: Long and drawn out.
Visitor Q: wtf -> Wtf? -> WTF?! -> What is wrong with these people!?

I started to read the Battle Royale manga and felt so bored this was the same for the movie. It was the violence that put me off it was the general plotline. Ichi the Killer is also violent with a lot of gore, torture, rape and extreme BDSM, although i found the live movie to be better than the comic.
go to alluc.org to see both the movies
