I'm pretty sure if it was obviously stated Yoruichi was the former second squad captain we wouldn't be arguing about it, can you show evidence to back up this claim? 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th, 12th, and 13th yeah all of those captains seem to have been fairly long standing at the start of the series. However, what if Yamamoto started the school for training Shinigami because of the incident that caused Isshin, and possibly Urahara and Yoruichi to live in the Human world? Then both 8th and 13th are possible captain positions for Isshin since both Kyōraku and Ukitake were graduates from that school.

Actually, Yourochi never said she was part of the Gotei 13. She was just leader of the Special Forces.

I think Isshin was once or still is a member of the Royal Guard from the king's Realm. Or maybe he was a shingami substitute like his son. He wen't on a similar adventure as ichigo and ran into Urrahara, Yoruichi, and Ryuryuu along the way.

What would be fun is that if Isshin was the former captain of Division 5? Because remember when at the flashback of Komamura and Aizen. He said that he was the vice-caption of the 5th Division. So I wonder who the captain was...

That would solve why Urahara and Isshin know eachother, and why they know Aizen. Urahara and Isshin are probably Aizen's seniors then,... I think. If my theory is right though. Aizen did have some kind of admiration for Urahara, don't you think? Since like he knew everything about him, as if Urahara was his 'idol'.

What always wondered me was the sentence that Aizen said to Toushiro. "This is a good time to remember. Admiration leads you astray from the truth." Or something like that. And then Toushiro freaked.

This is just conjecture though.

okay, ill explain it for you


1. yuroichi was an heir to the high status weapons clan, she obviously was 2nd squad captain, due in part to everyone not attacking her at random for her running away. And... since she had intimate knowledge of the weapon that was going to execute rukia ( how do you think that the shield bore the same symbol as the weight seal on ichigos cloak after he achieves bankai?)

2. Isshin is a captain, in part from the convo (ep 111) with the beefed up grand fisher, Isshin: your slow, and you swing a huge sword, Grand fisher:
why do you use a tiny sword, you cant defeat me with it, Isshin: captains can condense their spiritual energy or we would all be using swords the size of sky scrapers (then he attacks and vivisects grand fisher), then uruhara comes and asks if he felt better (noting that he knew that grand fisher had something to do with her death)

3. if you look closely during the school flashbacks of rukias memories in prison, you can see a captain on the roof for an instant (refering to the show, not manga, but it would be there too)

4. Rukias brother knew ichigos lineage, because hes made many comments on how he fights like someone he knew.

and for those out there wondering when ichigo leaves hell, he does in episode 168, they do not explain his escape or how rukia survived her assault, or how chad lived, and how renji and uryuu escaped, they jumped into the new captain arc

refering to yamamotos school, he said he started it and that the two captains were his best, the incident is probably the one that created the bounto or the war on the quincy, there were alot of people who felt the slaughter of the quincy wasnt just or right

i goofed, i meant to say that the two captains were his first students to be come captains since the school opened

One note, which might clear up the confusion about Yurichi, if I'm not mistaken, the second squad leader is also the leader for the special forces. If you notice, all the different squads have their specialties and functions. 4th is medic, 11th is super strong fighting freaks, and so on...

Regardless of whether his mother was shinigami or just a human with high spiritual power, she defiantly saw kingfisher. She's probably a contributer to Ichigo's high spiritual pressure. I would lean towards the theory that the half human, half shinigami, with high spiritual power on both ends made Ichigo the hybrid he is today.

Ichigo's father is a captain. He was bragging about it. The move he used was like Ichimaru's. Perhaps Isshin taught him.

It's likely that Urahara, Yurichi, and Isshin left soul society for the same reason. It's also likely that Ishida's father knows all of them and had some kind of adventure together like Ichigo and his crew. However, I doubt this incident is the same as the hollow/Quincy war as it was 50 years ago. The grandfather was there, but that would make Ishida's father like, 60 years old at least. He sure doesn't look that way.

The royal guard wouldn't be out of the question, but I think that's a little unlikely. The royal guard has been left totally alone. In fact, other than the fact that Aizen was trying to gain the key, that whole aspect of soul society has been left untouched. It would seem that this place is separate entirely like the 'blank's void.' There also seems to be no contact between it and soul society.

Well the vaizards were all ranked officers back then. Urahara was captain of 3rd squad I think and he was researching "Hollowfication" and made the hyougoku.

His captain was one of the vaizards called "Shinji". Then it comes to GIn Ichimaru. Gin passed the soul reaper academy in a year. He was the top student and even beat Byakuya's record.
Sousuke Aizen took interest in him andd took him as a subordinate. He ordered him to kill the 5th squad's 3rd seat, which Gin killed easily without even using Shikai, and Kaname Tosen was already working for Aizen as well. Somehow Aizen managed to hollowficate the 5th squad captain, 9 th squad captain and his lieutenant, Kaname's captain, Lisa who was Kyoraku's lieutenant back then and Urahara's lieutenant.

Tessai was the captain Kido or something. His lieutenant was also hollowfied. Tessai went with Urahara to investigate what happened to the missing officers. Urahara found all of them half hollowfied. Tessai used a forbidden kido and teleported athem all back to the department of research and development which was founded by Urahara and was sitll under construction.Urahara saved all the hollowfied captains and liuetenants with the hyougoku, and thats how they turned into vaizards. But Tessai and Urahara were framed by Aizen and were bacnished from Soul Society by Central 46. Aizen wanted the hyougoku so he could make Arrancars.

no, if u read the Turn back the Pendulum section, they showed that Yoruichi was the Captain of the 2nd squad, and Hiyori was the Vice-Captain when Urahara became the Captain.

but i find it very interesting that Kuto Tite has decided to keep Isshin's past in the dark. It makes us all curious

Hes anyone noticed in the anime when Ichigo starts off his eyes turn a bright blue? Could that be part of an immense power of being part shigami already? Since his father obviously was a captain, or near captain rank. And the eye thing might have something do do with his mother having somesort of shinigami oriented power, so he can see ghost AND hollows? The only thing is when he its facing that one mas grande ( the big black cone like hollows) he has a power implosion....where did all that power come from?, if couldn't just been from him becoming a temp. shinigami....so there are a lot of question i would like answered about isshin past, and ichigo's mothers past....and their part in the over all plot....why mention the isshin was a shinigami?
