To explain, stories use a lot of archetype heroines. Like when we read a summary involving a prince, we immediately conjure up what we expect of a prince, such as handsome, gallant, on a white horse etc. Or if a witch is the main she is typically evil and manipulating, but in the case of manga she is usually pretty and misunderstood, nice etc.

So to sum it up I want a manga that when u read the summary u go in expecting the heroine to behave int he way u expect her to be, but she behaves totally different or on the surface she meets ur expectations but as u read more her thoughts or actions show that she is much more complex.

My best example is in Kare wa Tomodachi where I went in expecting to be a typical love polygon 2 boy 2 girl thing with the other girl as the evil one. But 1 scene I remember even to now was the side girl eventually had the 2 guys, and in one incident the main called her indecisive and greedy. Then later both guys liked the main girl, and she couldn't give either up now and the side said the same words back at her face, it was EPIC. Although the example is not the main, it was the one that broke my expectation the most biggrin

Sooooo recs now plz biggrin. Romance prefered, anime or drama ok too. No yaoi, yuri, hentai, etc thanks

Ludwig Kakumei a lot of the female leads (its a series of connected oneshots) are not what you expect them to be and turn out to be more complex

Taiyou no Ijiwaru has several stories that feature women who are not quite the people they appear to be.

The female lead in Kisshou Tennyo fools almost everyone in school into thinking her as a flawless person who fit in easily, and the boys who are after her are in a for a more unpleasant. painful surprise.

The protagonist in Helter Skelter is as nasty and mean as can be, but you come to understand her desperation and loneliness.

girl got game maybe? sometimes i feel like she's more of the man in the relationship... though she does have her girly moments.

six half is an amazing read. for me, it breaks convention

Kare Kano maybe? It's more the male lead than the female one, but she kind of fits too. anyway, good reaf for shoujo lovers.
