Need something new to read... something that'll last me at LEAST a few hours.
The catch is, the protagonist MUST be charismatic. Basically, no cliche shoujo and shounen leads. You know... shoujo, short hair extremely smart guys, arrogant and sometimes a bit mean, but whatever they do they ALWAYS get the girl? Opposite, girls are weak and crybabies, waiting to be saved. Always playing out the tragic heroine, even at the slightest hint of the guy interacting with another female. Or shounens where the heroine pulls hind legs, kind and naive, cares more about the enemies than the allies. And the guys who acts before he thinks and get all sorts of useless troubles and injuries, but always having the goddess of luck behind him = =.
So yes, girl or guy, I don't care. But they must be different in some way. Stand out from the crowd. Or, just an average more realistic guy, playing an average realistic role that fits him, in an average realistic world.
Other than that... a good plot and decent length. Anything that you'd think worth reading.
- No manhwa! (I will take: manga/manhua/anime/jdrama/chinese novels)
- No ecchi
- No hardcore yaoi (softcore and shounen-ai are fine)

After seeing your lists and keeping in mind, that you are looking for something that will last for some time, I guess, you could give Yanki-kun to Megane-chan or Oresama Teacher, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun or Strobe Edge, or - spontanously - something like Kuimonodokoro Akira (Yaoi) or Kiben Gakuha, Yotsuya Senpai no Kaidan (Horror/Mystery) a try? ^^

From Eroica With Love - endlessly entertaining with charismatic leads (1st volume is weak compared to the other volumes)
Flower of Life - a non-romantic shojo bursting with all the funny and heartbreaking emotion of high school kids

For shounen you can try Eyeshield 21. The main character is a weakling but the cast as a whole is totally enjoyable and HILARIOUS!!
As for shoujo, I second Oresama Teacher and Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun. =]

Gokusen It's decent and after finding more chapters I'm making it my task to finish reading it. The girl's no wimp and the guys are pretty spunky themselves.
I second Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun and Oresama Teacher.
What can I say? I'm a sucker for delinquents.

You don't like Korean web comics like Noblesse, Tower of God, etc.? Or even non-web comics like The Breaker...? For some reason I'm thinking you're thinking about all that crappy manhwa shoujo when you exclude manhwa.

What I have read recently....hmmm
Charming Junkie, it's okay, not cliche (maybe a bit?) and quite funny with alot of chapters? 80 chapters for now. The girl doesn't cry alot, maybe just sometimes..and the boy is..unique?
I recommend Oresama Teacher as well...
Ummm......I have to think more.....I'll probably post more stuff later

I agree with jedinat. I can't stand those shoujo manwhas where the girl is completely stupid, likes some asshole guy, gangs are somehow involved, the girl either does or almost gets raped/sexually assaulted by the other guy or his posse, then she somehow ends up with him in the end. I see A LOT of those where you can't tell the difference between the guy and the girl except for their clothes.
I didn't like webtoons in the beginning and couldn't get into their format but a couple great titles changed my mind. If you can do it, Girls of the Wild's would be a great one IMO. The girls are not weak (the opposite actually), the guy is average but is a solid character who is not dumb but is just trying to get by and raise his younger siblings but himself.

Manga that I read recently (and like) are:
- Honto Yajuu yakuza-yaoi, ongoing, 5 vol
- Hajimari no Niina is only 1 vol, but is verry sweet XD
- Ookami-heika no Hanayome - shoujo, ongoing
- Taiyou no Ie - shoujo, ongoing
And as anime (if count): Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette. I finished it recently and is one of my favorite new.

If you're going to include webtoons, I recommend My Heart is Beating with my whole heart. It has such a deep meaning and the main character is so complex and URGH the color and symbolism is just so great.
I was put off by the summary haha but don't be. It all makes sense later. I swear the manhwa artist is one of my top favorites. he is a genius.
btw I second Tower of God...

I recently finished Yamamoto Zenjirou to Moushimasu. It had many touching moments, and the protagonist definitely stands out from the crowd. It only has 5 volumes though so I'm not sure if that's long enough to last you a few hours, but it's a great manga nonetheless.
