Speed.

Can you please expand your thoughts? I mean, if you get a release in much HQ than the speed release just by the differennce of 3-4 hrs? Or 2-3 days in much (and I realy mean it) high quality?
Sure speed scans are good in case speed varies by weeks or months. But just small difference of time and huge gap of quality, whom will you go with?

@Youni89: We are really sorry for that. Its just that the butthurts come in line, and we have no choice but to reply them individually. Ofcourse the butthurts go off topic and after some explaination we bring them here. Just when we feel that we have answered someone, another butthurt appears who seems like was waiting for his turn. Sadly, all the butthurts offtopic replies are either from you or your cleaner or QueenVIP. I dont even want to think about the last offender seeing how he even lack sense to understand the difference between a group and aggregiate ,and most of all he doesnt even cares to properly read the previous posts and understand them. Seriousley, the one who licks from dirty floor are saying that to others?
@MP cleaner- Why do you bother to ask questions,if you are going to ignore the answers?
Reality is really cruel and funny at the same time.

You know, if there is that little difference in the wait between groups, then it's probably not an issue of speed vs quality at all. If you remove "speed" from the equation, all you have left is quality. No one is going to choose a low quality scanlation over a high quality one unless there are other factors to that choice beyond the quality difference.

If they choose to get the low quality project, then it's probably because (A) they don't know the other version exists or (B) the scanlation is more readily accessible on the low quality site or (C) the low quality group is easier to get along with.

In any case, your only recourse is to spread word about the high quality version so more people know about it, make your site as easy to use as the one you're competing against, and try not to let this bickering influence people's opinion of your group. If it's really not about "speed vs quality" at all, then drop that debate and go and see what else is driving people to one group vs the other.

I agree with Arigatomina. There's really no point bringing up speed vs quality, or even a group vs. group. Just let the readers read where ever they want. done.

I'm for quality. I would rather wait a few days and have cleaner editing and smoother translations than read a rush job.Poor translations and slopping editing takes me out of the manga, which makes me sad because of the work put into it.I don't scantilate myself, but I can see how much time and effort goes into it, and I think that in providing this service, scantilators want their scantilations to be enjoyed and appreciated.

** also: this is a bit of a moot point- scantilators will put out their work when they want, and it only seems right as consumers to be appreciative of their work, regarless of the amount of time spent on it.

i'd go for Speed for some stuff and quality for others, I mean if the manga is one about fights, over powers and crap that repeates itself over and over speed is the way to go, but something with deep plot where a mistranslation may ruin it, im with quality.

PD. the thing with mangapirate tho. It isnt safe, as it makes the people working with the "quality" groups tire themselves trying to compite, as they try to do their "quality" job at the same speed than mangapirate. But that just shows why mangapirate came to be, because groups usualy lazy themselves with "quality" because they arent getting paid so theres no need to rush things and take it easy while enjoying it (not saying thats bad in fact i believe thats the correct way as must people will put presure over them asking for faster releases its better if they take it easy and enjoy it)

I chose quality.

I really tried to enjoy MangaPirates' releases.
But I witnessed so many mistakes, both in translation and typesetting, that I became tired of reading there.

Here we have two consecutive pages with examples of poor cleaning and typesetting (which I was just reading):
http://mangapirate.net/Girls_of_the_Wilds/75/4
http://mangapirate.net/Girls_of_the_Wilds/75/5

And when I say "translation", I mean sentences that don't make sense. There's also verbal conjugation mistakes that even I who am not a advanced speaker could notice. I won't bother searching for them, but I found a lot of them.

Sadly, the same goes for MangaCow, which just like MangaPirate would be my substitute for the dead WebtoonLive.

quality, very much quality I'm saying this in the case of Yamda-kun and the seven witches, first off the quality of the raws they use are down right terrible, they censor it by removing the foul language and the typsetting is bleh this is why i sit and wait for mahou-x to release their scans

I'm all for quality~
It just personally irritates me to read poor English, and if it's not cleaned/redrawn well either it's not fun to read. But I'm pretty patient and don't mind waiting for a better release. Although, I believe that any poor, fast releases should be replaced with better ones - just for respect for the authors. There are some manga/webtoons that are too good to be poorly done and I like to show respect to the original translation.
Certain words and phrases can create a specific atmosphere or implication in a story so I think it's important. I really appreciate scanlators that can do both~ release in a high quality in a reasonable time. If there are people putting their own time and patience in scanlating manga, there's no reason for the readers not to have a little patience themselves.
But it's just my opinion, so meh~ People can read what they want on the internet.

I stay away from manga pirates all together as well because with the poor quality of releases is a turn off and i can't support a group that steals projects from others

Good quality translation is all I care for. If only speed were the issue why not just read the summary of the story on some wiki? If translation quality has to suffer due to speed then there is no enjoyment left in the story to read. Both quality as well as speed should be present balanced; of course both can't be high at the same time but it should be reasonable.

I read low quality scans first to get the plot and then download HQ scans later for archiving. I also read HQ scans before reading a new LQ chapter just to remember what happened last time. A read a lot of manga so sometimes I just forget. Anyway, I am up for both speed and quality. biggrin

Both, I guess. I prefer quality with speed, like EGscans does with Noblesse, and Mangastream with Fairy Tail, Webtoon Live with Orange Marmalade, etc. BUT when a manga pirate website releases, say, Tower of God, the day the raws are out, and theCompany waits a whole week... well, I'm obviously going with the pirating, because I'm a huge fan of ToG. However, because I am such a huge fan, I'll read it when the speedy comes out, and then I'll read it again when the quality releases. That way I get the plot gist and can calm my anxious nerves down enough to wait for more details.

As long as the speedy releases are legible and I can understand the basic going ons, then I'll read that, and re-read it with quality later. For me, it's the same as reading the plot summaries for Kubera or Cheese in the Trap or whatever while waiting for the translations. Not perfect, but something to go off on.

But anyway, the mangapirate website seems gone... too much bad rep?

I don't think they'd be fazed by bad rep... Probably it wasn't as profitable as they expected.
