I have a suggestion for the high quality groups that are being robbed of their projects by those speed groups. Maybe they could make a fast release with a poor quality and then later on, make a high quality release. This would address the problem of losing their projects to those speed groups and in ...

Double the work for quality groups. And do you really think people would come back? They will think that groups are doing in order to save their no. of readers......People would just call them low quality group...Or start making comments on them like they were forced by so and so group to release fast.
MP is already criticised all over net(including on their own website). I am in support for both groups(speed & quality) as both groups have invested their hard work on it.
I am really happy by the pace current HQ groups are doing. They arent really affected by speedy scans as maximum readers still go to them for quality scans ,even if they have read speedy scans. And readers appreciate them as usual because they know that the wait was worth for it.

Edit : Until now,I was a supporter for mangapirates, but after coming to know that they stole other groups release.... I am disappointed. The reason I supported them was for the fact that they invested their hard work on it,but stealing others work and using it as their own is really not acceptable....Its just too rude and disrespectfull to the original group who made it.
EDIT - I checked their scans and they have given credits......so i dont think people should accuse them.

Vendetta Scans speaking here

Latest Release(s)
c.7 by Vendetta Scans (0d ago)
c.6 by Manga Pirate (1d ago)
c.5 by Manga Pirate (5d ago)
Search for all releases of this series

Killer Stall series, they took our chapter 7 cleaned watermarks took out credit and made it their own

While I certainly don't support this action, I must ask...why is Vendetta Scans working on Killer Stall in the first place?

For all the flack that MangaPirate gets for working on existing projects, there's some hilarious irony in someone taking one of theirs.

EDIT: Not that I have a problem with any group working on any project that they feel like. It's just amusing.

There is a balance between speed and quality. Most people prefer to have a certain combination of the 2. Quality can range from top notch professional translation/scan/editing to barely readable and totally wrong. Speed could range from 6-12months for 1 chapter to once-a-week/day releases.

Personally, as any manga reader, I prefer speed closer to 1 week/chp or faster with a readable-quality rather than a 1 month/chp release with close to professional quality. Of course if the scanslating group can release 1-2 day/chp with readable-quality then I'll go hurray. On the other hand, I generally avoid fast releases with wrong or barely readable quality. If there is a chance that quality releases could be made later, I'd op to wait for such releases unless I really really want the new releases.

On stealing other groups project, I wonder why. I mean if they are releasing stalled projects then it's fine. It's not like the other groups can do it and it generally pleases the lurkers. Stealing an active/healthy project is generally bad for the community as there are so many stalled or untranslate stuff out there. Of course, the group might only interested in the fame and only releases 'hot' manga; I generally don't like such groups and tend to stick to the highest quality ones.

Could anyone confirm that what I am saying is right or wrong-

I really wonder if it is fine to allow Manga Pirate to add their rlease here. The reasons I consider it should be removed from MU database is---
*It is an Manga Hosting Site just like Mangafox,Mangareader/Mangapanda etc..... Isnt that as same as promoting manga hosting sites? If you are going to allow them, then you might allow mangapanda for the big three release or mangafox where some fans release some manga there. Its completly equal as promoting manga reader sites, which I think is not allowed, right? Now you might say that they are releasing their own manga but thats an excuse they are using to advertise their site. They can make an blog or something for releases? The Company never said their website as Batoto, did they?

If I recall this site is for readers and scanlators...and not for aggregator sites.
If it continues, every aggregator site would pick one to two series and promote their site on MU.

From my point of view, its totally unfair.

* They steal releases. Yes,they steal releases from other scanlators and use it as if they are the one who released it.
(I am not from any scanlation team.)
The rules should apply to them too.....
I would request the staff to consider removing MP from MU database,if not for second case then the first one is more than enough.

Also there is this:
http://foolrulez.org/blog/2012/01/the-age-of-scanlators-and-mone y/

Why do you think so many groups love a certain online reader?

What? Don't you understand? The MAIN IDEA behind creating Batoto was for the scanlators to get money INSTEAD OF JUST the aggregator sites. I don't see anything new or shocking here.
If I have a choice between giving my money to aggregator site or giving it to aggregator AND SCANLATOR, I will choose the latter. I obviously try to support my favorite mangakas as well, but that's outside of the equation.

P.S: since I see the topic is pretty hot, as an OP, I guess I should respond in a fitting manner, probably tomorrow.

Youni from MP here~

All this discussion is really fun to read! Absolutely hillarious. Let me make one thing clear though.

All these series manga/webtoon/manhua etc etc you guys are translating? THEY AREN'T YOURS. lol. Get it through your head that you are all thieves stealing the authors' work without their permission, and maybe you wont be so butthurt when another thief (aka. us) comes and steals the same thing.

Scanlator Code of Conduct? the hell are you guys smoking... you need to wake up. And all the trolls on our site, just keep on trollin' and make asses of yourselves haha. We welcome the funny hate comments, just makes our day reading about you guys being butthurt.

Good luck on you quality scans. You guys really deserve a round of applause. Bye~

I do not agree with what Youni (Mangapirate admin) is doing right now, but there is one thing I do appreciate about what he is doing.

Sure there's an "ethic" in the scanlation world, which is namely - if another group's working on it, you don't touch it. And in many cases, this is necessary so that conflicts can be eased over and manga can be scanlated efficiently. People have spent hours working on a release, and for you to just cobble a quick release isn't fair to those people.

But then what about those "big" groups that have dozens of projects they're working on, when it'd be more efficient for them to work on just a portion of them? And if anyone touches them, they get completely anal and greedy about it, even when it's clear they shouldn't be working on so many. But because they're relatively big and well-known, they believe they have a bigger right and some sort of authority over it, and think they can crush whoever tries to mess with them.

Right.

Youni isn't doing anything "morally right" here, but he is making a statement here.

Well, that depends.

If GroupA releases a chapter of SeriesX and literally a day later, GroupB releases the next chapter of the series, GroupA has a real reason to be anal about it.

If GroupA hasn't released anything in 2 months, then that's life.

Agree with GGpX, but most of the series mangapirate are doing are well active and some even up to date with few days delay since it got posted. Most of egscans projects that mangapirate are doing were well on their way to being up to date at a good pace seeing how many projects they have.

EGscans needs to wake up and smell the coffee.
We don't care how perfect a release it, we just want a release that is satisfying to a point.

MangaPirate aren't terrible, they just aren't trying to behave like publishers who have license to a series. They are behaving like TRUE scanlators. Did the a ...

I 100% agree with this guy.. + how can people even be angry when someone "STEAL" a serie that dosen't belong to them by any legal means.

I salute all MP for doing a freaking good job

My issue with MangaPirate is that it's blatant attempt to get an online reader started & popular by hijacking series to make money off of donations and advertisements.

And yet, I see some people in this thread who are all for what MangaPirate is doing, yet completely hate what MangaFox & co. do.

Irony at it's finest, really.

Hmmm, there are some people who say "I prefer quality over speed anytime."

That just means that you are not a fan or that you did not understand what you said.
Because if that's really true you wouldn't read chapters that are almost perfect because there still is a chance that sometime, somewhere someone makes a perfect scanlation (maybe 10 years later)

What is important is the quality relative to the speed of the other scanlator(s). (and how bad you want to read them)

If a scanlation (quality=7) is released and I know that a few hours later there is a scanlation that is a quality=9 I wait those few hours.
If a scanlation (quality=7) is released and I know that a week later there is a scanlation that is a quality=9 I will not wait and read the faster scanlation.
While if a scanlation (quality=2) is released and I know that a few weeks later there is a scanlation that is a quality=9 I will wait for the quality version.

It all depends on the difference in quality and the difference in speed.

Also a lot of projects I loved were abandoned so I would even take very low quality scanlations for those.
On the other hand if its a project that I just kinda liked and there are only low quality scanlations I just put the entire series on hold till something better comes along.

But on the mangapirate case, if another group has an very active project (weekly releases) and don't do weird stuff (really obnoxious watermarks and unneeded delays) then it's just rude and an assholey move to try and highjack the project. Especially when there are so many great series that are not worked on at the moment.(Q.E.D. for example.)

I prefer to read a high quality one scanlation.
