I need to help! can somebody please advise what present i should get for girl's bday. We're both high school students, and this is my first time giving a girl a present, so i want to make it memorable for both of us. things to consider: we like each other but are not "officially going out" shes the quiet, academic type of girl.... i have no idea what she likes... as in what type of present or things she has interests in... i dont want to ask her what she likes because that would ruin the surprise..
*i dont think she likes flowers, soft toys, perfume, and i think stationery is a bit plain..* ive already considered stuff like scarves, bracelet.. but dunno what would look good.
can ppl please suggest possible presents i could give her, ill take any suggestions into consideration! and if anybody sees anything cute/special online, it would be very nice of you to link me it! Thanks! Also, if it isnt too troublesome, could you please also gimme a shop/website where i could find these suggestions thanks

Guild Wars 2. No, really. An ex just told me it'd be awesome to spend some time together again.
Although, if she isn't into video games at all, get her a (not too expensive) bracelet or necklace and write her a short poem (doesn't have to be good), and write something cheesy on the card. You do mention that she's the "quiet, academic type," so maybe throw in some cute pencils/pens and erasers on the side.

Does she know of and agree on
Quote we like each other but are not "officially going out"
Also clothing and accessorizes are not the best thing to do I think. Too cheap and it will not be liked/used (not memorable at all) Too expensive and you will be seen as showing off or creepy And I don't know how big the just right window is.
Make selfmade cake, way more memorable.

But... if the cake is too small, "Are you calling me fat?" And if it's too big, "What, am I too skinny?"
@badluk, good luck. But don't sweat it. Just be yourself (maybe a little sweeter than usual) and you can laugh off any problem(s) together. It's the first present you're giving her; she can't expect something perfect. It's the thought that counts.

arrr no! you have to make something on your own, i hope for your sake shes not the kind of girl who needs something expensive to feel appreciated. i guess the cake is a nice idea, but that will be..well...gone^^. with that being said, froot loop necklace, modern family style. with microscopic writing on a tiny note, hidden in one of them....id totally love to do that myself now. oh and if shes the quiet type you should definitely hand it, whatever it will end up being, to her in private.

If you guys are not officially going out, I would actually recommend getting her food or something that you guys can enjoy together for these reasons:
1) You guys are about 16-17, which means the budget is limited. A mid-range high-range priced food will be luxurious enough for the occasion. The same amount of money would probably only get you a mediocre accessory. Plus, you can use this chance to officially ask her out.
2) If you get her an accessory that she wears everyday (a watch, bracelet, necklace etc), she wouldn't know what to do with it if she gets together with someone else. I mean you surely wouldn't like it if your girlfriend wears a necklace that's a present from another guy, right? Same thing.
3) She's the quiet academic type means that she probably enjoys spending time and talking with you rather than an object (since I assume she's not materialistic or brand crazy). Having meals together would give you a chance to show that she's special, plus score you a date.
If you still want to give her something, I think a cute stationary is a good choice. It's something that she can use everyday, and she'll think of you when she uses it.
Steer clear of clothes because you don't know her exact size and her preference, and even if you do you'll never know how it will fit on her.
Do you have a budget range for the gift?

well... first of all... im not a good cook myself so i dont think i could pull anything off like a cake, or even a cupcake.. and theres a reason we arent going out (family reasons..) so i dont plan to ask her out just yet, but we talk like we are together i first thought about getting a cute bracelet... but it seems impossible to find one that suits a teenage girl in my country... stationery.... problem is i cant seem to find a place where they sell "unique" and cute stationery, they all seem to be too generic... to be honest, i live in Australia, so its one of the worst places for shopping... i dont mind buying stuff online, but im not good at finding stuff online so if anyone comes across awesome, can you please link me!

I really want to help you, but it's really tough to come up with an idea without knowing what type of girl she is. How does she dress? Preppy or a hipster etc? That would really determine what kind of bracelet or accessories I would pick out.
Were you planning on taking her out for her birthday already? That would be my first step of the plan if I were you.
Honestly, I would send you over to Tiffany. They do have a few things for around $50. And, I don't care who she is, all women love to see that green box.
No matter what you do though, Good Luck.
* I just saw your last post...even if you can't actually go on dates because of family reasons, make sure you make it official. You don't want to lose her. It's happened to me before.

You could ask her friends about the things she likes instead of asking her directly.
