I put no preference, because I like various types of characters and genres. I prefer seinen overall, but I like some Yuri stuff and there are also some good shounen action manga I read. Some of these characters share some similar traits with me and some have none. I've enjoyed both idealistic characters and cynical ones. Heroic and anti-heroic characters. It really just comes down to how well does the character work within the framework of the story. So, no preference for me.

Nice tricky question for the poll. I suppose I'd prefer to read about characters that are nothing like me, but I avoid paying much attention to that.

I guess most of us would vote for 'no preference.' I would personally get sick of reading about the same kinds of characters, whether they resemble me or not. Variety all the way!

Which usually goes with 'Nothing like me' since there is no epic fantasy saga in real life...

I think its almost impossible to find a character that all the same trait as oneself. So I put someone who shares just a few traits.

Actually I don't really mind what kind of character as long as he isn't annoying like those characters in Harems. Some characters you can't just read about due to their stupidity etc.

I've never seen a character that's anything like me. At least none comes to mind off hand. In most manga series, the main character almost always has trouble getting the girl/guy or is oblivious to the fact that the girl/guy likes them. Personally, if I go after a girl I usually get her. There are times when I don't know that a girl likes me because she never talks to me. Recently, my sister told me a couple of the girls she knows thinks I'm hot even though I've never spoken to them. Aside from romantic BS, I'm not an idiot like many main characters. I guess I'm getting off topic, though.
I really don't care what the character is like, so long as it's entertaining. For a lack of better words, I think actively looking for manga characters that resemble me is pathetic. It's hard to explain, but I guess I'm satisfied with the way my life is and don't care to fantasize about what ifs. The only loophole for that is super powers. If I was invulnerable or something neat like lugia devil fruit powers from One Piece, I'd likely go for the unoriginal world domination and force space exploration and the like. They're usually just fleeting fantasies that end with me ruling over what tax money is spent on. Or how I could collapse civilization by doing something like forcing the magma chamber under Yellowstone National Park to explode. Not many anime characters do that though
I guess I'd prefer characters that are nothing like me since that's all I ever see. Not many characters are as deranged as me or the way I think. Take a peek in my head and your head would explode. Or you'd sneeze your brain out. Rant rant rant blah blah blah. I never stay on topic for very long
