I liked his obsessive love. It only got really weird because of so many misunderstandings (due to their childish, selfish personalities and pride). That type of love is okay, but it can become dangerous when combined with the wrong types of personalities (as happened in this manga).
I personally prefer an all-consuming love and find it interesting to read about such an intense love that ultimately destroys the characters. The psychology behind it is interesting. Though this manga is a little over the top, lol.  Spoiler (mouse over to view) The rape(/s?) was just too much.
