Does the description matter much to you when deciding to read the manga, or do you mostly really determine it from the cover art? I used to go with both, but now (considering I read too many series already) I just try to give everything a go unless the art is REALLY bad, because descriptions are becoming really unreliable. I know it has to do with the fact that non fantasy romance can only have so much variation, so the description has to be pretty limited without giving the whole story away...

Also, has anyone else noticed that half of all the series' descriptions seem to end with "...?!" Does it make more sense in Japanese, or has it just become a regular cop out because people can't think of anything else? I'm assuming most of the descriptions provided on mangaupdates or other sites are just translations of the official descriptions, but I'm not sure about that either.

Yesh. I seem to find that most descriptions don't do the manga justice or gives off a better impression of the manga of what it really is. I do think art is an important factor when reading the manga. I don't want my eyes to burn every time I read another page bigrazz . I read the description, look at the cover art then read the reviews and comments that everyone has to check if I should read it.

For your second point about the ..?! I think in its just there to let the reader know if you want to figure out more, you simply have to read more. Yeah......

I don't give a heck about descriptions, i usually depend on the genres, tags and cover art. I agree with sakura29 about the ... being more of a english language device to try and lure the readers in. It's not very annoying but I kinda think that it's a lazy way to end a description lol eyes

You're right that most of these shoujo groups are translating either tag lines or summaries on the back of covers provided by the Japanese publishers. The summaries put up by the groups are following a format that probably doesn't bother the average Japanese reader, but seems rather silly when left in abundance in English.
