What resources does it offer that you use?
What headaches does it relieve or create?
What services do you feel mangaupdates is lacking?

- I use the releases page to quickly see what has been updated.
- At times I get bored I use it to quickly find something to read.
- ^It helps me spend more or less time reading manga. Not mangaupdates fault.
- I love the tags, helps find specific terms.
- The suggested mangas (whatever is called), is addicting at times.

Not really what it lacks, but it chooses not to have:
- In the respective update chapter, a link to where it can be read it.
- Real time chat similar to that of kongregate.

--PS: If you haven't figured it out, I hardly use the forums.

it really good to find unknown stuff, and the tags really help to pinpoint the exact specification. it helps that i dont waste time reading a manga and found a few volume down the road that there is something that i really hate about it.
i also like the review. of course people can say whatever, but i tend to read a manga with a lot of positive review, or a lot of negative review with one very elaborate, very descriptive and detailed positive review. i also rely quite a lot in rating, but i do find a lot of people just downvote a work not on the merit of the style and storytelling, but only for the content that affect their sensibilities. of course i also tend to downvote manga with content i found objectionable, but there is a lot of manga that i like with such themes, so ultimately the review that help me.
and i also like these forums. i am very narcissistic, so being able to impart a piece of myself to others is quite a good way to past my time.

well, i think the link part cannot quite work if the manga is licensed o the scantalator dont like to get the scan outside at large. and i never found the beauty in talking real time - most of the conversations are banal and not thought of well. i simply can't write a coherent sentence knowing the other person is waiting on the other side.

and yeah, it is also nice to read the bickering of some posters here. sometimes i get tired reading manga, but their petty fights are quite entertaining.

@whitespade
It totally left my mind, the reviews and the rating. Yea I like to use those as well to determine to some degree what I should read.

Hmm sounds like your content with what mangaupdates has to offer. Frankly I am too, its more like I'm not expecting much more though. If they do release such a tool, well we'll see how that works out.

As for the forums lol, you can't believe how tempted I was to light some fire and purposly create a post easy to rage about. The reason: it's so easy to write it out of your mind. I suppose thats the same thing that occurs in realtime chat.

As for scanalators respect, I have an easy solution to that. Simply when the scanalator updates that they have released the chapter, it's them who puts the link in. But dont worry about it much.

Mangauppdates is my manga bible.

I mostly use it to track releases on titles I'm currently reading. But also to some extent those I've read.
Since I don't use it to do anything spectacular (I don't hang out in the forum, I just randomly read threads based on what comes up on the news page) I can't say it really creates any problems (headaches). I totally adore the genres an categories search system, and as a student of library and informations science I'm fascinated by how well it seems to work. It's just a shame that most other (western) literature are harder to categorize as well and easily.
Can't think of anything that I am missing on this site... I guess the site could become bigger and more... more. But I think I actually prefer it the way it is. Basically a database. Let news and editorials and big reviews be on those other sites. They need a reason to live as well, right?

@Hartland

Yea one of the things that is sad is that novels dont have a similair database. At least I dont think there is one. There might be some that are close, but no where near what mangaupdates does for manga.

The Obvious: Checking releases, Managing lists,Checking the ratings/reviews/comments before picking a series.

I think the forum is the best part for everyone. For me, it's a great way to ask for new recommendations when I wish to read something new. Then there are discussion threads about the series, which is a great place to post your views/thoughts on events or remove your frustation in cases like Bleach and Naruto.

So it's my no.1 source for my manga needs.

One of my Must-Visit-Everyday webs.
While there are people that using RSS or subscribing mangafox, I choose mangaupdates to limit myself in consuming manga, and I love reading comments because it helps me find a way in how to describe a manga.
What I feel lacking is its search-engine (AFAIK, there's even a kind of add-ons to do that... CMIIW).

i really dont like
the recomendations
it is very missleading
naruto have

listed under recomendations
that is 5 of the more odd ones
if you think naruto is the best thing ever you would think most of these are awful

I think mangaupdates changed my life. REALLY. It has done a lot for me these past 2 years (and 10 months). biggrin It's like, the first website I visit every time I open my laptop.

It helps me...
-keep track of what I've read, what I'm reading and what I haven't read.
-search for good series
-look for interesting reviews on whether or not I should read the manga.
-keeps me up to date on manga scans
-lets me credit the Scanlation group
-search for Scanlation groups to work with
-say what I want in the forums
-Search for manga with the same categories that I wanted
-Look for the other works of the mangaka
+++

This statement is full of win. And saved me from having to come up with a rejoinder of my own biggrin

MU is one of my top 3 most visited and favourite sites, and has been for close to half a decade now. I don't plan on letting that change any time in the immediate future.
