Wow. Does the current generation really see FFX as a classic? I know everyone's gotta start somewhere, but hearing that makes me want to cry. A classic is supposed to be something before your time that began it all.

Valkyrie Profile
Ogre Battle 64
Spectral Souls 2
Growlanser 2
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

These would be, in order, the best RPGs ever made, as far as I'm concerned. Then again, what I look for in an RPG is well implemented innovation into classic Japanese style system mechanics, brisk pacing and strong character development in the story, and music that doesn't put me to sleep.

If these qualities are also what you look for, I'd suggest you give them all a try; however, if you're more into Western RPGs (anything developed by Bethesda is a prime example) or entry level RPGs (those like Final Fantasy that are aimed towards the casual player-base), you probably won't appreciate them as well.

my two favorites:

Tales of Phantasia
I don't know if it's better or worse than the other tales games, but I loved the graphic and the fighting system...

Gothic
because of my computer being so old I only could play the first gothic (with the terrible looking graphic), but I loved the freedom you have in your actions^^

Fable 2 or maybe even Runescape (played when I was young)

But I think it'd be Final Fantasy if I ever played it.

I've played a few. The original Fable, Dragon Age, Demon's Souls, and, if you would classify it as one, Fallout 3.

Well the majority of games I play are from Squeenix/Tri-Ace.

In the Final Fantasy series, FFXII shall always be my favorite (Crisis Core coming in second, mainly for Zack and gameplay, but didn't reach first cause I will always detest that ending D:<).

Kingdom Hearts, I've played all the main games (BBS, I, Re:Chain, II), but currently, Birth By Sleep is my favorite (that game is so much fun, even though ice cream beat is such a pain in the ass. Argh, it took me forever to get farther into Ven's story because of this stupid minigame </rant.>)

Tri-Ace: Infinite Undiscovery (don't bash the title, please, it actually does have meaning, y'know.) This game was FUN, the visuals were awesome, as was the gameplay, the characters didn't develop as much as I wanted them to, but eh, oh well...but vermiforms are a pain to kill (especially when my teammates turn into them...and then I die FFF---!). I want the sequel, NOW. I think it's supposed to come out in 2011 (or so said wikipedia at one point, now said statement is gone, so I hope they didn't cancel it.)

I do have an unplayed-as-of-yet Shadow of the Colossus, and it will probably be one of my favorites when I do (I've heard good things about it.)
