Worldbuilding

Member 12:11 am, Oct 28 2012 Posts: 8	Hey everyone, This is one of my first posts in the forums, and my first request for recommedations. Fantasy has been my favorite genre for a while now, and while I've found quite a few fantasy mangas that I've enjoyed, none of them really had a world that I really loved. I would like a fully fleshed out world, similiar to Tower of God (though that may be setting the bar a bit high) where you not only have multiple locations throughout the world, but each location has its own culture, history, government, language, and commerce. This does not necessarily have to be limited to only the fantasy genre, sci-fi with literal world building and some historical fiction (with creation of towns or cities in historical countries) could work as well. I just want to be able to come across a world that you know the mangaka had to have put a lot of effort into thinking and developing. I apprecaite any help that can be given.

Member 12:59 am, Oct 28 2012 Posts: 278	Magi has a good world. Full of different lands, ambients and ruling factions interspersed with arabian nights style dungeons. I like Tegami Bachi's world as well, its got a very distinct style about it. Centered around a main city with an artificial sun. Kimi no kakera has an interesting and mysterious world, a lower town with a higher plateau where the high level people live, walled in with huge walls and perpetually snowing. Eden no ori-large mysterious island Hunter x Hunter-Large fantasy world with different areas, cultures and ideals Kemono no Souja-brilliant world building centered around the main character and her journey through life Shingeki no Kyojin-A walled in city in a fantasy world where the threat of being attacked by giants is always imminent Dogs:Bullets and carnage-It's only really one large city but the atmosphere and world building is really good. Haibane Renmei-Mysterious and with a certain nostalgic atmosphere Kazan-Not a world with clear dimensions or place names but a clear idea that there were mainly sporadic villages with a few big cities Jisatsutou-An island but clea\rly mapped out and comprehensive Magic-Just a one shot but has an interesting planet setting I would say that the worlds in Yumi Tamura's work, Basara and 7 Seeds are well fleshed out. They're based on current Japan's geography, but then she's changed the contents and features of it in each, making it more a fantasy feudal world in Basara and a post apocalyptic world in 7 seeds. Of the mangas given only Shingeki no Kyojin and Eden no Ori have I read all the way through, and while I'm familiar with Marie no Kanaedru Ongakku, Tegami Bachi and Hunter x Hunter, I've never really tried them, so they, along with the other ones I haven't heard of, will give me some reading to go through. Again, thanks for all the help!

Member 8:41 am, Oct 28 2012 Posts: 226	Dorohedoro - theres two worlds, the hole and the magic country. eventhough theres not much location, i think they have pretty neat culture. its gore, but still hilarious. 2001 Ya Monogatari - this is space science fiction. theres some worlds that they go to, and some story are centered on ship and science, but they are all enjoyable. +Anima - nothing special with the world, but its a cute story. just ignore the slavery part. Coo no Sekai - the dream world. i dont remember much, but it think it is quite neat.
