Hey guys smile

I'm looking for a thought-provoking series, something that hits hard. At the same time, I'd prefer it if it wasn't that very serious. Or at least, something that is entirely gripping, where the seriousness doesn't become something of a turnoff. The one series that comes to mind fitting the criteria is Fullmetal Alchemist, though I'm sure I've read others that fit the criteria.
Finished series are even better. Also, please only suggest series that are being scanlated regularly - I caught a liking for Red Eyes, which is just painful now -_-

Thanks biggrin

I loved Tokyo ESP and Knight Run, the latter especially after the 30th chapter or so, though it does drag on a bit. Any other suggestions?

Also loved Pluto and The God of High School; I'd have preferred it if Pluto hadn't lost it's dark edge, though.

Here are some manga that I think fit your description, but if it's too dark/serious, I'm sorry because I enjoy dark, twisted but thoughtful literature so when I come upon something not as serious I instantly think of it as light. Anyway:

Adolte and Adarte ~ a short story about two boys who look much a like and decide to switch fates for day. This is a new twist to the Prince and the Pauper, and the ending is pretty awesome in my opinion.
Omoide Emanon ~ I love this story. It's about a man who meets a girl at a boat and she is some one who had lived since the beginning of time. It sounds pretty crazy but it's not supernatural... Unless you believe it is O_o XD
Goth ~ I read this a while ago, and you'd probably get a better idea of it by reading the actual summary, but it's very interesting.
Hotel ~ this is supposed to be a known piece but I'm not quite familiar as to how far it's fame goes, but anyway, it is about a creation named Hotel who is supposed to help the existence of human life on Earth. Beautiful story.
Love Story, Killed ~ despite the title, it is not a romance. However, it's a very thought-provoking piece about war.
Peony Pavilion ~ a beautiful collection of Chinese stories, and fully colored. It definitely is very thought-provoking.
Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan ~ one of my all-times favorites. It is a story about two people finding redemption through each other. Beautiful story, beautiful art. Another story by the same author you should check out also: Bus Hashiru
Kieli ~ a bit gory, but I don't think it's that dark. Anyway, it is also a favorite of mine this story about a girl who can see spirits and she goes on an adventure with this strange man who can see what she sees. I admire this series for it's ideas on religion and religious people.

A very serious story but nonetheless thought-provoking I would love to recommend to you:
A Fairytale for the Demon Lord ~ it's very dark, very bloody, and rarely light, but it's a beautiful piece depicting fate and desire.

That is all I have for you now. I hope you like them. Also, they are all completed works.

I was looking through my list and I saw a few more for you:

Chinatsu no Uta ~ a story about a girl who moves to an island and faces problems we face even today. It's a very nice story with detailed art. I remembered liking it.
Door to Heaven ~ a oneshot piece about chasing after heaven, but never reaching it in this world. It's really hard to understand at first but if you think about it after reading it, it's a great piece.
K no Souretsu ~ I read this a while ago so my summary might be too vague. Anyway it's about this apartment building filled with suspense... I liked the art. It's a very mysterious piece but worth the read.
Kami no Kodomo ~ umm... This is a very twisted manga. So I warn you now. When I read this, I felt like I needed to throw up three stomachs. But it's very thought-provoking. You see into the mind of a psychopathic killer and yeah it gets pretty messed up.
Mukashi no Hanashi ~ a sweet collection of stories about right or wrong and the power of memories.
Yume Kurai ~ a story about this animal who eats night mares.

I hope you like these =) They're lighter than my previous recommendations but evoke thoughts on everyday ideas such as prejudice, dreams, beliefs, way of thinking, etc.

*I third Pandora Hearts. I love love love love love that manga!

Pandora Hearts. Especially during the last episodes, which gave me some serious headaches.

I seconded Pandora Hearts. It becomes a guaranteed headscratcher on later chapters but at the same time really really good.

Or if you'd like to read a light novel, I highly recommend Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria (Novel). I had a lot of jawdropping moments when reading this novel.

How have you not read Hoshi no Samidare yet?

Also, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - "Kono Watashi no Mono Tonare, Yuusha yo" "Kotowaru!"
