I'm wondering what mangas are out there in which the main character struggles with depression.

oishii kankei has a few chapters where the main character is depressed (it's like 4 chapters out of 77). The whole manga is not about that though, but the depression is very realistic. I haven't read it through yet, so I don't know what the ending is like, but I'm guessing happy

If the manga is anything like the novel, I suggest you look into Furuya Usamaru's "No Longer Human".
