Interesting.
I wonder if our dear "original Kenpachi" was part of Yamamotos original wild bunch back in the start of Gotei 13 and later mellowed out due to.. whatever. Maybe she was even like Zaraki and didn't get her Shikai before mellowing out a bit and learning healing, seeing as Minazuki doesn't appear to have that much direct combat value by what we've been shown.
Then again, we haven't been shown a whole lot anyway, so who knows what other tricks the damn manta has in its arsenal.
@Kaitentsuki. That was one of the things that I deemend "interesting." Its quite certain that Unohana is the original Yachiru that Zaraki admires/admired. It would't make any sense to mention it otherwise.
I think people are overanalyzing the connection between the two Yachirus. Isn't it enough that a) Zaraki Kenpachi admires the first Kenpachi, Unohana Yachiru, and thus b) named the foundling he picked up after her?
I'm far more interested in her actual past as Kenpachi and what lead to her becoming a healer. It would seem unnecessary to layer more connections between them, considering how many characters we are going with as is. Then again, this is Kubo... I suppose anything is possible.

ohhhh, >___< didn't see that coming at all. I thought she was going to be the next captain commander since she was the most qualified in my opinion. All her stats are superior to most and quite well balance.

AGREED. And she has excellent composure and judgment. However, I am not surprised that she is a lean, mean, killing machine... we've always known that she's some crazy monster inside.
Curiously, why has Yamamoto been losing all the major fights against the big bosses? First Aizen and now Juhabach. Disappointing.

No one else feeling curious about the Unohana "Yachiru" part? I mean what are the odds that someone named Yachiru (a character clouded in mystery) is serving a Kenpachi and the first Kenpachi is named Yachiru? I sense a connection....

Oh man. It didn't hit me until I read the last post there. Hmmm...as far as Genryusai losing really I mean consistently. Was something up? Yeah either the original 13 or somethings up with the Kenpachi thing.

She may be a split personality. Retsu is the peace-loving healer with one shikai, and Yachiru is the demon fighter that everyone is scared of. "Yachiru" was awakened by the death of Yamamoto and the feeling of helplessness she's had recently, not to mention the taunting that she suffered from Tenjiro.
That would explain why Jiraya-Kyoraku is captain commander and not Tsunade-Unohana. Ukitake is sickly, so that was an obvious choice, but Unohana always seemed like the best choice. If she has psychological problems or a split personality, she would be unsuitable, though they seem prejudiced against the Kenpachis anyway, so maybe it's just her original name.
The other potential option is that that's not actually Unohana Retsu, but instead is actually a different person, a twin sister or a mother. That's harder to believe for me.
I don't like that her name s Yachiru though, because that pretty much guarantees that the other Yachiru is going to remain useless for the rest of the series... I always thought she should have been the actual captain. It seemed like a bleach thing to do to have the sweet little girl be the strong one and the monster she rides be her vice captain, but it's fine the other way too.

Im quite sure that Yachiru (the pink haired one) and Unohana have some connection, family maybe? Someone that Unohana sent to find a worthy successor to the name of Kenpachi maybe? Because this is way to suspicious.

OH yea lol, totally forgot that part xD though i do find it interesting that Unohana didn't get the position of commander and why did she forsake the namesake of being the strongest to being a healer, some big flashback panels incoming i suppose.

So "Kenpachi" is a label like code breaker for shinigami that have been "designed" to be killing machine and there are "currently" two of them with some sort of limiter on...

Not quite. It is a title, first explained in chapter 114, page 11. At least one translation goes "The title given the strongest Shinigami in every generation." Basically just a formal title for the baddest dude around.
Zaraki first took the title as a name for himself at the same time he named Yachiru. You could say that he earned the title, at the latest, when he won his Captain's seat in a duel with the previous 11th division captain, who was also the 10th Kenpachi. He was definitely the Kenpachi of Zaraki long before that.

None of this is surprised me, actually.
Obviously the next captain commander will be the next geezer. Zaraki losing is no good, he needs some training, and it's time we got to know Unohana, who has always been composed yet scary inside.

I agree with Syphilis that that Zaraki named her after Unohana. It may have been a foreshadowing of his expectations for the younger one, but it is unlikely that this would be lamp-shaded so early. I can count on one hand the number of manga that have that much foresight, and Bleach is not on that list.
We can't rule out a family connection technically, since both her and Zaraki's family names come from the region of soul society where they lived, but I doubt that someone like Unohana would just up and abandon a baby in the second most dangerous section of soul society. Unless of course, as I said before, she was a split personality. Split personality would explain quite a lot about this new Unohana revelation.

I like Kyoraku as the big cheese now, he makes sense to me and with Ukitake as his advisor/friend he can pull this off.
As for the little pink-haried Yachiru, I think that she is quite strong, just remember this first fight Ichigo vs Zaraki, she was sitting on top of a building watching the fight when a messenger came to deliver a report, he slmost pissed his pants just by being near her, her aura was scary.
I only wish we will see all bankais of the captains and of course Uraharas as well and all Lts' shikai form
cheers
P.s. where the hell is Yoruichi Shihōin

Really? I know that some people think Kubo is predictable, but... really? You're not even a little bit surprised that Unohana used be a Kenpachi?
