Yui Horie has a new album, its pretty good. and Mikuni Shimokawa came out with a new greatest hits album, and i encourage you all to listen to it and become entranced with her angelic voice that brings inanimate objects to life

Anyone who doesn't listen to rock, but is into hip hop/rap, check out Rage Against the Machine, The Beastie Boys, and Downset

Im not exactly sure of their genre, but High and Mighty Color is considered metalcore and they are a Japanese band, their stuff is pretty awesome. I would definitely recommend them.

yea, its pretty new.

i am looking for good Rap, anyone got any suggestions?

Astronautalis has your back for quality rap. You can get two of his albums on iTunes: You and Yer Good Ideas (his first full album), and The Mighty Ocean and Nine Dark Theaters. The vast majority of You and Yer Good Ideas was recorded in a bathroom, and as a matching lo-fi feel; it is maybe a bit sloppy, and not all of the album matches with...well, with the rest of the album. On the other hand, he managed to get into a real studio for The Mighty Ocean and Nine Dark Theaters, and it shows. That album is beautiful in content, depth, and music.

Now, if you're willing to hit his concerts (he sticks to the south, and small venues, so good luck) or use less than legal methods of acquisition, you will be able to find two other albums by him: Seven Freestyles in Seven Days, and A Round Trip Ticket to China.

A Round Trip Ticket to China was not impressing, with the exception of the first two tracks (Track 1: Quite Possibly the Dirtiest Freestyle I Have Ever Done, is the album's intro, where his live audience shouts out suggestions for things for him to freestyle about. Track 2: The Dirtiest Freestyle I Have Ever Done, is when he raps about them. I can't actually describe what the song is about without risking the banhammer, but it's hilarious--and what he gets for asking drunk college students for suggestions. PM for details!

Seven Freestyles in Seven Days is as good or better than The Mighty Ocean and Nine Dark Theaters. It is exactly what it sounds like: Every day for a week, he woke up and freestyled about the dream (Sometimes descriptions, other times tangents or the things they brought up) he'd had that night. The production was good (I am under the impression that he did that disc as a side project while working on TMO&NDT, so he had a studio at his back) and the lyrics were genius--and thought up on the spot, no less!

Since this post is already getting long, I'll post a snippet of the best lyrics from each album at the bottom of this post:

Quote from TMO&NDT: Astigmatism
There's something inside this house: footsteps by the couch; it's all shade and shadows tracking the suspect's silence down
It's not the sounds they make; it's all the noises that we never hear: old clichés on attraction; rain drops after the weather clears
Tapping fingers for a living, counting out the notes that go "ticks" when it sits open and rattles and clicks closed
Twelve lines, one in the light switch, a chip in the globe, the radiator's always freezing, teeth clenched and lips float
It's more than I bargained for but nothing I can't handle--I learned to listen for the kitchen; feel dust fall on the mantle
Everything is done in inches: fingertips and little skills; nothing is done quickly except tying shoes and electric bills
The relentless drills, constant repetition, daily grind, same set of pants put on one leg at a time
Every morning's filled with breath and the rest is just fine…I never forget my mistakes, but sometimes I forget I'm blind.

Quote from Y&YGI:I'm Never Right (Feat. Isaiah)
I am the one you sought I ain't around the block I've got the steady hands and a mean game of small talk,
I put my quarters up and waited for left and lesson learned

I guess I got some questions had to just walk away
this is it my last game there's more than winning and losing its too late to save face
ain't no man with strength in his hands, I'm just like you another pawn in play

dreams where I can talk the talk and the ball is placed i love the stain felt the small chinks I love the way the chalk tastes
I lean upon my hands stop them just before it falls away charge forward to future and watch the white ball race
a few were set askew for one and two with six and five I couldn't believe my eyes the cue ball laid away split away into equal sides

the end is nigh I can feel a storm coming its the first sign, next generation of first born running the end is nigh.

Quote from 7F7D:Without a Two Weeks' Notice
The families that were once full of cheers
Are now full of sad times, alcohol and beer
And everyone's got a problem: a dirty chair;
A bad little secret; a car that won't star, dear
The windows are cracked and smudged: it's looking ugly
Someone in the neighborhood let their lawn grow, buddy
And they need to trim the hedges on back,
To let some sunlight in to expose the facts
The truth we hide behind the doors, right
Painted bright red with the gold trim tonight
It's hidden there inside of wrapped presents
And I realize that there's no escaping and I get in
Reach my fingertips into the cement
And I bury myself six feet under it
The closer that I get, the more that I know
The more of the truth and the secrets are shown
And every time I get my fingers inside this
I get a little farther away from what I knew
This job, this life, this choice
Until one day, I'll fall in entirely
Without a two week's notice

And that last one, he made up while he rapped it--freestyle 100%. Proof of his genius. Of course, that's not the whole thing; it's just the last thirty seconds of a five minute song rapped at that same speed--about a tenth of the goodness.

blu:

Good life:

I got a call from my girl last week
She telling me about that time of the month and how it may not come
Dropped the phone right before she said I might have a son
And I started asking God how come
I got dreams I ain’t reached yet – ends that ain’t meet yet
When it comes to being a man, shit I’m barely getting my feet wet
Trying to hit reset knee deep in debt
Trying to figure out how to feed a mouth that ain’t got teeth yet
How the hell am I gonna show a child to be a man
When I’m twenty-two without a clue on how to take a stand
Against this system when it’s just us, Wanna show ‘em justice
But last year I was just in cuffs
What the fuck am I supposed to do when he’s telling me ‘Dad I need some food’?
I’m looking down at my stomach and mine is grumbling too
What can I tell him when he’s twenty-two
And he’s asking me what the fuck I was thinking when mommy’s tummy grew?
Was I scared, was I getting prepared?
Or did I even think of leaving her without a father’s care?
Should I tell him that it’s hell here and life ain’t fair?
Or should I try to make a change when he’s pulling on my leg?
(show Me)and he keeps on telling me to

chorus:show me.. show me the good life

There are five ways to get Astronautalis CDs: Find a friend with them (Good for all four CDs); iTunes Music Store (Good for You and Yer Good Ideas and The Mighty Ocean and Nine Dark Theaters); The Fighting Records Online Shop (Good for Y&YGI and TMO&NDT); or, finally, something I'll PM you about to play it safe.

Edit: I take part of that back, to say that Seven Freestyles in Seven Days can be found on Astronautalis's MySpace (myspace.com/Astronautalis; kind of easy to find), as "Dang: Volume 1--Seven Freestyles in Seven Days."

That, and I'm jazzed, because he just announced three concerts in California, two within easy driving distance.
