This chapter was quite depressing for me, I mean I know ninja's had to die but Neji? Hardly saw him that much in the manga but when he do show up, he's dead

I agree with you. This chapter made me remember the battle between Naruto and Neji, and that talk about what they fight for.
My favorite character died, but he decided to do so he could save someone. Just like his father.
And when the mark on his forehead disappeared... sad, but awesome.

Sucks Neji died, but I really hope Kishi doesn't make Naruto sue that stupid talk no jutsu or his and get Obito to use his eyes the same way he did with pain when Hinata died. If Kakashi dies next I would bet on such a conclusion.
I have a feeling with this all those that prayed for a NarutoxHinata are going to get their wish by the end.

Aye this is why his death is oddly satisfying for me, he got to choose how he died, just like his father and willingly died to protect a family member and Naruto.
@guy12: Pretty sure with this one, It destroyed the surrounding area to make the battlefield and I think alot of the others have started by destroying the immediate area

Quite interesting, I'm sure more major characters are going to die, but I just hope they pace it out a bit more.
Or not. Kill everyone and let all Naruto fan's despair.

The main issue with Neji's death was the lack of foreshadowing. The only hint we had of death coming to visit was the deaths of the sensory/communication team. We saw very little interaction between Hinata and Neji to show he was going to put her life ahead of his. While the death itself was appropriate, there wasn't enough build-up to it.
And that is the main thing that worries me. The last time we had mass deaths of named characters, they summoned the Grand Justu of Eye Ball Z to wish everyone back. I do NOT want to see that again. Death should not be a revolving door made completely pointless by some ultimate technique. If I wanted to read crappy writing methods to bring back dead characters repeatedly, I'd still be reading Marvel comic books. I want there to be meaning in deaths, not 'Oh, no, an X-Men died again, should we bother with another funeral?'
The only way anyone should come back from the dead is Kakashi using the jutsu that saved Gaara, and that would be limited to one character being saved at the cost of Kakashi's life. We know he has the ability as he watched Gaara being saved. It is not something pulled out of the ass. And for Kakashi to sacrific his life in such a manner, especially if it's to save one of his students, would befit his character and finally rest from the guilt he has carried with him.
If Naruto gets Obito, or worse, Madara, to Rinnegan everyone back to life, I swear I'll burn... oh, wait I already burned the paper Naruto manga I had when Pain Eye Ball Zed everyone. Um... purge everything Naruto off my computer... or something like that....

Well I wasn't expecting the death of Neji but I was expecting someone from Naruto's shinobi generation to die. I mean Kurama was (still is) out of chakra, Naruto is quite beaten up and can only use Sage Mode, they are fighting Madara+Obito+Juubi, the shinobi alliance jutsu didn't work, the five kages are KO, Kakashi is at his limits, tons of shinobi died, and NO ONE CLOSE to Naruto dies? Be real, it's a war, someone HAD to die.
I think we can expect a pissed off Naruto cause he couldn't keep his promise, right?
Btw, Sasuke going to talk to the Six Paths Sage with Orochimaru?

Lee is right on the front of the Juubi now and pulls out a mokuton branch stuck in him
Lee throws it at Obito
Obito phases through it
Lee attacks Obito

Suddenly Lee vanishes
Obito: !?
Madara is stuck by Lee in the jaw by his kick
Madara jaw is destroyed and regenerating
Obito: I see...he made it seem as though he was attacking me but changed his attack to Madara...not bad.
Lee appears behind Madara with hidden lotus
Madara: You dare strike me?
Madara's back branches out mokouton spikes and they impale Lee
Gai: ! LEE
Lee: ! urgh...
Lee: It seems..in the end..I couldn't even protect myself...
Madara picks Lee up by the neck and throws him to Gai

Gai body erupts with a red aura around him.
Gai: Unlike the 7th gate which evaporates the sweat to create the blue aura, the 8th gate evaporates my own blood cells.
Naruto: Woah! Can you feel that...that red aura around him is pushing me away!
Madara: * His chakra...*

Can't really say it was heartbreaking, for starters we barely knew Shikaku to give a damm if he lived or died, his "supposed" death wasn't even really dramatic or heartbreaking in any way, Neji however would be a much more dramatic death and heartbreaking impact if he had a larger role in Naruto in my opinion but I am sure there were people that took Neji's death badly.
