Love both GTO and Gokusen, but regardless of the descriptions, they're really not the same at all. If I *had* to choose only one to read, I'd pick Gokusen, though. eyes

Definately some similarities in setup between GTO and Gokusen ie both have teachers in charge of problem students. Both teachers are also the epitome of physical prowess, so anytime things get into a physical confrontation, they win via muscles.

Some differences are that GTO is a lot pervier, and the art is generally better. Gokusen style is a lot less refined (especially in earlier volumes), and there's less focus on fanservice and more on situational humor. GTO also has the main character working to save problematic kids one by one as the main focus in the storyline, whereas Gokusen focuses more on the main character's precarious balancing of her school teacher persona vs her home life as the respected daughter of a Yakuza household.

Honestly, I like Gokusen better. GTO's humor is a bit crude and focuses a bit too much on perving on high school girls for my tastes. Gokusen is purely situational comedy without resorting to fanservice or toilet humor. I mean, how often do you come across a strong main female character that *doesn't* have big breasts, and will kick everyone's ass?

I think, if you're a woman you will like Gokusen better, Male GTO.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both. I just found GTO to be more entertaining and it felt more diverse.
Mainly in respect to the supporting cast.
GTO had a bunch of fun characters besides Onizuka, all very different from one another.
Gokusen seemed a bit bland in that department, though Kumiko is a bit deeper as a character than Onizuka.

New question.
If Kumiko and Onizuka got in a fight, who would win?

Undying ONIzuka vs a mob boss...

Is that a joke

ONI got stabbed... with BULLETS and still managed to beat the crap out a big group and took a test afterwards... not to mention jumping off a building, catching a falling person and getting hit in insane ways more than once... the sheer Garness of Onizuka eats away any character in gokusen... and i've read both so I know what i am talking about.

Then again Onizuka is an idiot, but you asked who would win in a fight and i believe Nobita kun agrees Onizuka would win.

And I just noticed Gokusen got finished... time to nail that one to the wall

Hmmm just finished all of the volumes and other chapters out there.

Really liked it and can't wait for the last 2009 chapter. bigrazz

Hmmm... GTO, huh? It was okay, didn't really care for the crass kind of jokes or much of the fighting, most of the characters and so on. See? I'm just past the period where I wanted fighting in almost any series. And sh*t jokes just really aren't my style unless they're really sick. And although I like diversity in my cast, I also want a good load of character development that's a bit more "refined". That isn't to say, it won't and can't appeal towards others who've differing standards for humour and manga.

I kind of really liked Gokusen's character development and much of the plot. Though there was only so much background development to the cast, they were quite dynamic and interesting enough to stand out on their own. Most of the jokes were really funny and had me collapsing in laughter though some of it became a little too rehashed after a while. And the series was not without problems though, as the length caused a fair bit of the plot and character development to fall flat. Seriously, for a good while, everything was drifting aimless for quite a few chapters. And I didn't like how many of the side characters just vanished off like that, with little finality or conclusion. And the ending was disappointing and I'd have loved to see the future of Shin-chan after 5 or more years. But ah well...

yeah the only thing that I didn't like was that I didn't get to see shin in a five years or so, the manga was great...the humor was silly and funny...

gto well...that's more adult like, and the guy is really nasty (I like gto lol! but come on it's for "dudes" that an handle the swearing, big boobs and stuff),

gokusen: it's a woman the teacher so you get to see some more feelings! (:

BOTH WERE GREAT! ;D
