Hey guys
So I was wondering what are some realistic yaoi out there?! Usually yaoi are like oh her I just met you but I think I like you and they sleep with each other and happily ever after. Well we all know that this is not realistic. First of all, in most yaoi manga it seems normal for people to be gay and it looks as if 80% of guys are gay, well that can't be true. Secondly, I hate it how guys like each other so fast. I mean like come on, at least know the reason not just love at first sight. Ohh well.
From what I've read so far, MIYAMOTO Kano's works are really realistic and I really like them. So far I've read her Aisanai Otoko, Amayakana Toge, Escape (MIYAMOTO Kano), Flowers, Hydra, Lovers, Souls, Night Walk, Not/Love, Te o Tsunaide, Sora o and I really liked them all.
Arashi no Ato was realistic too.
Also Doushitemo Furetakunai
And Complex, I really liked how the couple's whole life was shown here and not just a part of it where they're all young and all.

Well...do you guys have any suggestions?!
Thanks in advance smile

In my opinion, you can't get better than Miyamoto Kano's work... OMG I love her so much! You should read Calling and Rules (you may have already read Rules bc it is part of Hydra) as well for realistic relationships... Her Supernatural work, such as Nemureru Tsuki is REALLY good too! Okay, enough of my love for Miyamoto Sensei bigrazz

So, as far as realistic, as you know it is really hard to find ones that are in the yaoi world. There are the few gems out there but mostly it is... "Hey I just met you, but I love you.... lets have sex" lol - so the few I listed below are ones that I have read where there is more than that... I will look for more but these are the only ones that stuck out to me and it is hard with you because most of the ones I have read are on your list too! *hehe*

Aiso Tsukashi
Kuchibiru no Yukue - only thing about this one is the uke looks really young... but it is one of my favorites ^.^
Café Latte Rhapsody
Dear Green and Dear Green: Hitomi no Ounowa

I'm going to suggest some stories in which the relationship progresses more slowly, such as in Arashi no Ato. Whether this is more 'realistic', I don't know. confused

Boku no Koe
Boku no Shiru Anata no Hanashi
Don't Cry Baby
Earthian - science fiction
FAKE
Hachimitsu Darling
Kuimonodokoro Akira
My Life with You
Sorenari ni Shinken nandesu.
Tengoku e Ikebaii - science fiction
Voice or Noise - fantasy
Doushiyoumo Nai Keredo

Second works of FUJIYAMA Hyouta as suggested by xXGazeChicXx (Dear Green and Dear Green: Hitomi no Ounowa). I'd add Okujou Fuukei, Rakka Sokudo, and Honki ja Neekara

Of course shounen-ai moves more slowly, if at all:
Gohou Drug - fantasy
From Dusk till Dawn - fantasy
Koori no Mamono no Monogatari; Silver Diamond - fantasy

You might also try the categories "Slow Romance". "Workplace Romance", or "Friends Become Lovers".

BTW, I'm also a mad crazy MIYAMOTO Kano fan. laugh

I'll add a few of my own suggestions:

IS — this is possibly my favorite manga ever (yaoi or not). Although the main character is intersexual so it's a bit unfair to call this manga yaoi, the romance essentially is, and either way deals with issues that any fan of yaoi would sympathize with. Very realistic, but also *extremely* touching. Read it!!

Yamada Yugi — such a wonderful mangaka!!! Usually the romance in her stories develops more slowly, and it's usually not just a walk in the park (sometimes a hint of angst, but never too much). Seriously, read her. My favorites: 1. Yume wo Miru Hima mo Nai, 2. Doushite Namida ga Derunokana, and 3. Saigo no Door wo Shimero!.

Yoshinaga Fumi — equally fantastic!!! She always writes really cool plots and is really interesting. Also, the art is gorgeous (esp. when a lot of art in yaoi is ugly imo). Definitely worth your time. My favorites: 1. Ichigenme, 2. Gerard to Jacques, and 3. Sore wo Ittara Oshimai yo.

Other good (realistic) mangaka to try are Nakamura Asumiko (always really thought-provoking) and Yoneda Kou.

Complex (already mentioned) is realistic, touching, and longer than most yaoi, which makes it an amazing read. It really should have won some award, but alas no.
