Hoozuki no Shima - Small island setting. Horror. Crimsons: Akai Koukaishatachi - This one is a little different from the norm. It's about a group/school of salmons journey to the ocean and back to their home in the end. Kokushi no Shima - Horror/mystery, island setting. Only one chapter out so far. Could be interesting.

Underwater/Sea in general: Children of the sea-the first one that springs to mind Ever 17 is like 6000, but more shounen and not as good.... Cradle of monsters is on a cruise liner...but if you like Hoozuki island its worth mentioning cause its the sequel...ish Daphne in the brilliant blue-Underwater cities Seto no hanayome-mermaids... Shinryaku! Ika musume-seconded
On an island: Jisatsutou Btooom Black joke Cage of eden (edit:seconded) Kaguya hime
Set on the coast: Happy hustle high-Surfs as a hobby Air-I think...haven't read it in ages.... 7 seeds-Not completely coastal but included it because there are a lot of arcs with sea/coast settings. Dangerous share
Historical shoujos that have the heroine living by the coast, at least for the first part sometimes longer: Legend of nereid Crystal dragon Rure The pearl grudge Spirit of the ocean

Angel no Oka - classic shoujo by Tezuka-sensei, mermaids, lot of travel back and forth to an island Honey na Koto - surfing Love Cruise - josei, the first story is about a, well, cruise
Assuming you don't want yaoi, have a couple lost at sea, stranded on an island stories if you do.

sure, shoot them my way, not really in to yaoi but I'm not a person to turn down a good story just cause of the sexual orientation of charecters, I like to keep an open mind

OK, here's some more. Home - they are on a ship just part of the time, but they live in a harbor town, and one of the characters is a sailor. Tropical ni Koiiro - oneshot, smut
These are the yaoi ones: Anata no Tame nara doko Made mo - a detective and the criminal he is trying to catch are most of the time at the sea, or stranded on an island Mujintou Lovers - lost at sea, stranded on an island Renai Zemi, story 4 Ubawareru Koto Marugoto Zenbu - the extra story is about a boy whose father, a fisherman, died at sea Ikoku Irokoi Romantan - starts on a cruise ship Hohoemi no Nichijou, story 6 - it's a tearjerker, though A Toy With Sadness, story 5, about a surfer (the main story is not a pleasant read) Ousama Game, story 6, pirates, continued in Kaizoku Game
Hope these help a bit.

I suggest reading the Ever17 visual novel instead of the manga.
some more: Arpeggio of Blue Steel Ryuuguuden - This was pretty trippy though. Reader beware I guess. Hekikai no AiON - seaside town (mermaids)

Umi Monogatari (watch the anime, I guess - although the Japanese in it is very simple if that's your thing)
