Hey everyone. Im looking for some good live action films based on anime or manga.
I'd love to hear you're opinion on them as well.
The only ones I've already seen are the two deathnote movies. So im a newbie.

Gantz! Gantz is amazing as a live action.

Mushishi is also decent but gets slightly boring in my opinion.

Lol, I wonder what Gantz's live action would be like, without all the mindless gore and brutality? bigrazz

On the other hand I would definitely love to see the live action of Mushishi. The anime was amazing.

Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge had a very good live-action adaptation I thought. I actually saw the movie first and that was what brought me to the manga, and I wasn't disappointed with either.

Musishi's effects were really good and they got the main character pretty well, the only problem was that the manga/anime is so episodic that it doesn't translate to film format well. Like there's no clear beginning/middle/end. Though a couple of the story arcs they did really well, especially the one with the little boy that couldn't hear.

Gantz on the other hand translates well to a film format because they separate it into 2 films. The first half up until the fights with the buddhas is the first film. Gantz has a good beginning/middle leading to the climax. I think they got the characters and reactions really well and the costumes/ effects were also good. Though obviously as colorless human says there is a lot of gore, so don't watch it if you're not ok with that, though they aren't too bad, they're only 15's.

Also I forgot about Kitaro, those movies are good too. A bit like Mushishi with the Youkai plot but in my opinion the format fits better, the effects aren't as great as the other two but its still an entertaining watch. Slightly more kiddyish than the other two as well...

I just checked the images of these movies
Gantz looks really good, the characters looked spot on and they got the suits to look cool as well

Mushishi, oh my god ginko looks even better than the manga version of himself.

I haven't read happy negative chainsaw edge ,20th century boys and gegege no kitaro manga...yet. but they look cool so I'll check them out after the manga.

GTO, is onizukas hair not bleached? Plus he looks way more handsome than his manga counterpart, I wonder how he will pull off all those weird expressions like in the manga. I'll see it anyway as I am a GTO fan. biggrin

more reccomendations are still welcome bigrazz

If you haven't read 20th Century Boys then do so ASAP. Its a masterpiece by Naoki Urasawa.

Pretty much everything I watched:
Hotaru no Haka live action is very good, and I'm not saying it because my group subbed it and also dare to make an English version too. bigrazz I'd dare to say that it doesn't pale in comparison with Takahata's masterpiece.
Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru movie is very good, and I'm not saying it because my group subbed it. Again, lol. I know there is a manga, but I suspect it's based on a novel (honestly I don't know but I think it was worth a mention).
GTO live action series is great, and I'm not saying it because my group subbed it. For the third time. bigrazz They did a great job to make it "real" and I liked what they did.
Battle Royale live action is better than the manga, but not at the same level of the novel.
Boogiepop Phantom live action was kind of funny to see since it was terrible lol.

Space Battleship Yamato
Live-action version of the classic series that was known in the US as "Star Blazers". I got the chance to see this at a convention and really enjoyed it. I've only seen a few episodes of the series, but from what I'd seen, it was a faithful adaptation. They even used the same uniforms, and the same majestic music. There are a few updates, such as more women in the cast. The action doesn't stop, and I liked the romance. I think it's worth your time.

I enjoyed: live action movies of Solanin and Helter Skelter.
I also liked the live action TV drama of Bartender (it's not the same as the manga but a very good adaptation).

PS: I think the death note movies are terrible.
