Does it distract you when staff leave comments throughout the chapter regarding a scene or situation?

Never

and by comments I don't mean notes that help explain things (like cultural notes or chapter references) but things like "I hope he didn't eat that" or "omg she's so cute" etc.

so if "comments" is not the right word then maybe "commentary" might be better? idk

How old is your ideal manga hero? I gave more variety for the younger age groups due to how young Japanese protagonists tend to be and they could be mixed up even more.

9 or younger
10 to 14
15 to 19
20 to 24
25 to 29
30 to 39
40 to 49
50 to 59
60 to 69
70 or older
No preference
