I read a manga a long time ago, I believe in 2005 or 6. So it's a pretty old series.

The premise was really generic fantasy setting, there was a hero who was meeting a red dragon, I believe. They actually meet the dragon right off the bat, in the first or second chapter, I believe.

Then I have something of a blank, and after that, I remember a city, mix between medieval and early modern architecture with stone buildings. The important part was a fountain and I'm not sure if the main character came out of the fountain or if it was just a statue on the fountain that was important. I remember the fountain was key in some way though.

And then I don't remember much else... Sorry for the lack of a clear description, it was so long ago, I can't get all the details. Any possibilities would be greatly appreciated!!

You may be able to find it here: http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?category=Dragon%252Fs& genre=Fantasy&perpage=50

Just ignore anything from 2008 or later and you should have more that 1 page and half to check.

I tried looking trough them but i could't quite find what you are looking for, i think it might be better if you do it your self.

Thanks BlackOrion, I hadn't thought to look through the dragon tag, so that should have been my first point of reference.

I would love to have said, 'Perfect, I found it and it's this one..." but... I can't seem to find it among any of the dragon tagged manga. I don't know if I dreamt it or something? It was, admittedly a long time ago... but I was pretty sure I read it on the bleachexile online reader... A reader that doesn't appear to exist anymore, else I would be looking through the titles there.

Does it have to do with seeing a fire dragon burn down a village and they find a person in a well of that village? http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=72210 its not from 2005 though...

Actually, another friend of mine thought of Gate - I think it was actually me who added gate to MU, a year back... but this manga is different.

Sorry if I wasn't clear - I don't remember any modern elements in this series. I just meant that the way the mangaka depicted buildings was either medieval or early modern (17th century-ish). There were no modern buildings like the 20th/21st centuries.

The dragon was not a central part of the manga, it was just the first thing the characters saw, and I think he was only there in chapter 1? Then they move onto that village with the stone fountain and I'm not sure if there were tunnels related to that underneath but I think the arc had a lot to do with water at that point - a bit like the arc about water in superior perhaps.

I remember the scene with the dragon was in a comedic/gag style - not epic. So they talked with the dragon and I think it got mad at them and booted them out of it's lair.

Also, I don't actually remember if the MC was male or female, the art was close to shounen style though.

Thanks for all the suggestions... I'm afraid this might not work out... I will have to make do with all the other great series out there!

The manga you're looking for is called Dark Mage.

Last Fantasy

The reason you can't remember it well is because it was only 5 chapters and ended quite abruptly.
It's basically a mage and warrior, particularly strong, but ends up doing everything wrong. They meet a dragon first volume, the fountain part you mentioned is the 5th chapter, but wasn't much. They were escaping someone and went into the sewers, fire exploded from the sewers causing the fountain statues to spray fire instead.

There were some parts in between of shenanigans and antics, but overall it is short.
To recap:
Dragon
World tree
Princess
Fountain city
No more chapters

Yeah, Vudoodude, you're right, it's last fantasy. Hmm... so it ended there... that's sort of depressing, and even though I finally found it. I'm really impressed you picked it out!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

And yeah, lol, I know dark mage well, I'm very good friends with the translator who is currently doing the novel summaries on the EGS forums. But thanks for suggesting Aquarian!
