I'm looking for a manga where the main hero and heroine travel around the world for a major reason or purpose.
A good example would be Rave Master.
I've read/ am reading some others that are sort of like that:
--Magi
--Magico
And I'm trying to avoid prolonged overly mainstream stories. So, sorry but, One Piece is out. I know it's good...but it's way too long and way too developed for someone like me to just barge in. Hehehe. but I'm sure it's an amazing manga.
I'd prefer a bit of romance, not too complicated, and but not overly subtle (since that's no fun).
Oh! And please avoid recommending any material with Yuri, Yaoi, Shounen-Ai, Shoujo-Ai, Harem, Ecchi, Hentai, or extremely mature content.
Thank you so much for putting up with this! I look forward to seeing some amazing manga.

Hakushaku to Yousei
Hatenkou Yuugi
Kieli (though whether there's romance or not is debatable)
Kimi no Kakera
Vahlia no Hanamuko (or, more specifically, the eponymous oneshot)
And Watashi no Ookami-san does this, but the two stop moving around in its sequel Dear.
+Anima also fits, though it doesn't have much romance.

Kubera - The creator says there will be romance, but it hasn't happend yet.
Dark Air - Basicaly like a typical RPG in manga form, but its fun.
Ou Dorobou Jing - The main character travels around, but there is a diffrent girl in each chapter.

Berserk Best adventure manga though it has gore & one rape scene.
Magician (KIM Sarae) Fits your requirements completly
Tower of God I believe tower is the world....
I highly second reid1's suggestion though the novel version Ookami to Koushinryou (Novel)
I am surprised you consider Rave Master as a good manga? Oh, well.... You might say One Piece is mainstream but when you read it you will find that it's much more than what you think....

And yes, the novel version is much better
