i was reading what i thought was a cute lighthearted romance series- but then it turns out the love interest got raped and it completely ruined it for me and im all bummed out 
need a good romance thats reasonably short
(20 chapters or less- and no oneshots unless its like 60+ pages)
being completed is a must
dont have any real specifications; not looking for anything in particular... just need a palate cleanser. something overall upbeat with a decent story. maybe something like houkago x ponytail that i read yesterday...
only real turn offs are:
rape
sex friends/prostitution
ambiguous ending/harem
horror, mechs, historical
pretty much everything is cool though.
EDIT: as for what ive read in the past- the list is really long and i am constantly forgetting to update it. so as many suggestions as possible would be cool (preferably linked XP) and i can just look through for whats new and interesting looking.

Here are some of the romance manga that I read when I need a "palate cleanser":
Lovely Everywhere
Yamamoto Zenjirou to Moushimasu - The romance isn't too prominent (until the end, at least), but this really is a great manga.
Boku wa Kiss de Uso wo Tsuku
Kono Koi wo Wasurenai. - The third oneshot, The Flower that Blooms in You, is amazing 
Beast Master
And if you don't mind fantasy:
Hanatsukihime - I guess this one is historical, but I don't know how strict you are about not wanting historical manga.
Manga by Kawase Natsuna ( Hoshiyomi no Yogensha, Tobenai Majo, Lapis Lazuli no Oukan)
I know you said that you don't want anything over 20 chapters, but if you're willing to read 36 you should give Strobe Edge a try (if you haven't read it already). It gives off a nice feeling.
Hajimari no Niina is also a really good one, but it's not completely scanlated yet (though it's getting there, and it is complete at 4 volumes).
I hope you can find something!

The others listed above are also good, but those are my go to romance refreshers when I get a 'bad-end' (like Ichigo 100%) I'll try to think of some more to add to the lists above.

Let's see what I can recommend you with the romance genre:
Bus Hashiru is interesting. Sweet, fresh romance. Great for when you need a cheer up.
I could second Hanatsukihime, but it isn't like Bus Hashiru.
Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan is probably my favourite manga. It may be too tragic for your mood right now, but you should read it whenever you feel better.
Haruyuki Bus also gives a refreshing feeling.
If you need a laugh, Ludwig Kakumei is the best manga for you.
If you forget the third oneshot (it doesn't make any sense), Rakuen (SAKURAKOUJI Kanoko) is great. The first oneshot made me cry (if I'm not confused with the second one), the second one almost did (and it's soooo heartwarming).

Tokimeki Gakuen Oujigumi is what I read when I need a palate cleanser. Anything by that mangaka is funny and refreshing though.
There's also:
Matryoshka - very sweet and pretty oneshot
Sukima Shiki - this really cheered me up a few days ago
Hyakujuu Kingdom - One of my favourites

What series where you reading that bummed you out? (To avoid it if at all possible.)
