Nanaura's shenanigans

Personally, looking back and forth at the between the past and the present, Nanaura has constantly reinforced the fact that he is a Zerestrian Squire, if you look at chapter 20, Maki directly states that he being a squire must be a lie, with him restating that he is indeed one.
What could possibly make him so loyal to someone, while reinforcing the fact he's a squire?
Could it be, that Veronica's elder brother is commanding him? Is that why his loyalty isn't yielding? Of course, there isn't any evidence to her brother being reincarnated, but still. The whole "I had no choice but to obey. That person..." Is totally pointing to her brother, or maybe it's just me overthinking. If it's true, it just adds another "why" into the scenario.
But it's still odd to lump him together Lucas and Veronica's betrothed -I can't remember the prince's name, so I will forever call him this till I remember- because if that flashback serves to be correct, and they did indeed orchestrate the whole war, why would Nanaura ally himself with them? Wouldn't he be rather angry that they destroyed the castle?
Unless he was a traitor from the very start, which wouldn't be surprising considering how he reacted after the whole alibi thing (between him, Yuu, and Harusumi Minami, I forget which chapter that was in specifically.)
There is the possibility that the mastermind is Glen, but even back from the blackboard message, they did state that it didn't sound like Glen. The way that things are moving in the manga make it feel as if he's not involved at all. Of course I could be wrong >.>...
