I understand there's much waiting, but saying he should have visited the basement is the same as saying he should answer about titans now. Imagine if Darth Vader said "I'm your father" at the 10th minute of Star Wars IV, wouldn't you find it anti-climatic ?

Hundreds of years and yet no knowledge about the titans ; should a teenager discover all in 2 or 3 battles ? Especially when he doesn't know about himself ? How, then ? By saying "This is my way" or "Don't touch my nakamas !" ?

It's not your usual shonen. In Naruto, you read about the Hokage stuff in the first chapter and just wait, enjoying simple action between the character and his final goal. In Shingeki no Kyojin, you're introduced to the world the same way as Eren is, the same way as a clueless young man learns about a hard life that grown ups don't really get either.

Also, much time is spent for the details and side stories to make a world without necessarily helping the scenario.

However I do not understand people complaining about the pace - which has been the same and is justified by the type of story.

The author left so many hints, never dragged on fights more than needed, naturally changed arcs... Situation has changed, battles are different, yet it has never slowed. It's perhaps frustrating to see humans constantly fail, but every single mission still gave data or lead to suspicion.

At some point, I think it's rather because the story is ambiguous, negative and not leaking much about itself that it might get boring for some who are just looking for something that'll always go straight forward.

In any case, I'm pretty sure the author did not mess up at any moment.

Well, I just finished marathoning it, and I'm hooked. I've been on manga hiatus for a while, and this has sparked my interest in manga again. The pacing is a bit slow, sure. But that's something that seems common among manga with a monthly release. But I can't wait for the next chapter.

I agree that pacing was slow after the annie arc. Didn't care for the rich folk/government/church conspiracy story. That's where I dropped it a year ago.

After marathoning the latest chapters though, recent developments have definitely caught my interest. What exactly is the relationship between titans and humans? What's the secret in the basement? Where did the people in Connie's village go? I REALLY need to know.

Please continue with updates, scanlators!

It just feels slow because its a MONTHLY manga... to wait 30 days to read 30sh pages bigrazz of course u will feel it being slow... Its tha same with any monthly manga i read... imagine that time when berserk was translated by the band of the hawk... they used to do vol releases so u HAD to wait like 6 months to read it bigrazz THAT was slow pace...

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
people in connies village were most likely made into titans...

So basically this thread is to complain about having not liked the manga? And how it could be drastically changed to fit one's personal tastes? I marathoned it as well. And everything so far makes perfect sense given the big secrets are left out for the sake of suspense. If you don't like speculating, being surprised, or thinking too hard about plot developments (which you shouldn't have to since everything is explained while you read it), then don't read any suspense manga ever.

THIS
I felt bad that quite a few characters died. The sadder thing about it is that they really didn't get much or any character development or screentime but when they were introduced or were shown you just couldn't help but to like them.

As for the pacing It's fine if it wasn't monthly. I'm an impatient person, I want to know what happens next as soon as possible, ie I want more.

All in all it's fine as it, except for the art. That could improve a tad bit more in my opinion.

A review stated that since the current (Real) world has weapons that can destroy anything and everything that they can't seem to feel the despair of people fighting with swords. I think that is seriously wrong. Just cause we have weapons doesn't mean we are secure, even if the setting was changed into a modern setting, what can those missiles and nukes do if the target is in the middle of the people your trying to protect? How about when those weapons are lost? Or worst if the can feel off radiation and MUTATE.
Another reviewer said something about developing weapons. It's not easy. Even now it's not like you can just slap things together and say TADA here's a weapon. And think of Inventing a weapon in their current time. There are no machines to make it any easier. You also need resources which are being hugged by the rich(and safe) people. That and they have very little knowledge about titans, so how can they make weapons for things they really know nothing about?

It turns out other 2 members of the squad are actually titans, wtf!? Those two had been background characthers until now, I doubt anyone could have expected it, it seems like he decided this just out of fucking nowhere. And they start by asking Eren to just go with them nicely. WTF.

Actually someone expected them to be the special titan not to mention he predicted it a year ago, since somebody have foreseen things like this, the story is still good imo.
