Well I checked out Nishida Higashi, and, turns out I love her! biggrin Almost all of her stories were above average, but Negai Kanae Tamae was just what i was looking for! My little world was shattered when it ended though, and now I can't find ANY yaoi that I like :/

This one had the angst, the yakuza theme that I love, the manly looking characters, the intriguing storyline, and it was supreme (for me at least :3)

Anywho, if anyone knows ANY manga that were similar to that I would be very grateful! biggrin

(this one also had the right amount of action/sex/nudity in it-I don't like overdoing things bigrazz)

Thanks in advance!! biggrin

Nishida Higashi is one of my favourite mangakas as well!

As for something specifically similar to Negai Kanae Tamae, have you tried Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai, Acid Town, or Endless World?

Yeah! And I loved them all!! biggrin Yoneda Kou's style is one that i've really come to like! eyes (too bad the english versions stop at the most interesting points though, it's times like these that I wish I was japanese just to buy the actual volumes!! :/ Especially in Acid Town.. :/)

That's the thing anyway, I can't find deep series like those... I'm starting to think that if there are any I'll never find them... T_T

One of the more thought-provoking manga series I have read is Rules (though you might have already read it).

While a little aged, 1999 Shanghai by the same mangaka as Kyuuso wa Cheese no Yume o Miru was also good.

For BL manga that you can chew on for a bit, go for YAMASHITA Tomoko, Est Em, and ONO Natsume (aka BASSO).

...among others, but these 3 stand out to me the most.

I've actually come across all three you mentioned sumirex! bigrazz (though I can't say I favored Rules that much, despite so many people suggesting it :/)

And thanks for the suggestion crazed! I checked all three mangakas out, and I especially liked YAMASHITA Tomoko! But I have yet to find a story like Nishida's... Most stories that I find with the potential of turning into what I look for are oneshots!..... T_T

Keep in mind that I don't really like girly ukes/girly drawings etc... smile smile So any other suggestions? biggrin

I really liked Afuresou na Pool by ISHIHARA Satoru
Its not yakuza (they are in high school) but there is nothing girly about them.
Don't let the description sway you, there is so much more to it than that description implies.

Looking for 'smart' yaoi, eh? How oxymoronic~ bigrazz
Well here are some of the more intense mangas (that are devastatingly twisted or just... different):

Endless World has a darker, grittier atmosphere-- with drug-induced hallucinations, abuse, and heaps heaps heaps of angst

NAKAMURA Asumiko has some haunting and thought provocative works. I recommend Coponicus no Kokyuu & Double Mints. They're both morbidly fascinating, and again, have mature themes

And there are the short stories. Some can be surprisingly thoughtful. YAMASHITA Tomoko writes some good ones; check out Yes It's Me and Illumination (the main story) for a realistic approach to...things.

Oh yea, and you should totally read Kizudarake no Airabuyuu. It's friggen hilarious!-- Clever and witty and it subverts and plays with all the typical yaoi concepts and situations
eyes

Also, for 'literary, deep, sophisticated BL' you could check out these threads:

Maladymaven, I've actually come across Afuresou na Pool but as you predicted I let the description sway me and I ended up not reading it... bigrazz I will now! biggrin

Perpetual I will check out the threads you suggested asap since I've read most of the manga you've sent me! biggrin Though I do like short stories and have actually read many, what I want is something that will probably make me eager to read the next chapter, something that won't let me put the manga down! (though the yakuza storyline is optional, I'd love a manga with it even more bigrazz ) Thanks for your suggestions! biggrin

Sora o Daite Oyasumi - dark and psychological story with some twincest in the mix
The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese and its sequel - one of the best character studies and evolutions i've seen in a BL
Giglio - might be a bit much for you, but it's a great dark story to haunt and repulse.
Koujitsusei no Tobira - interesting storyline with a spy/political theme
Love Mode - has a quite complicated, but engaging storyline
[m]Yuutsa na Asa[/m] - lots of angst, some historical politics, romance is a bit twisted

mangaka's i love who's stuff is usually thought-provoking, but not necessarily dark: Hideyoshico, Hayakawa Nojiko
