Oku did a few Gantz spin-offs over the last few years and popular big boys manga like le´ts say Fist of the North Star also got revivals after a decade. Just look @ Dragon Ball and Kenshin! The main reason for my cynicism about a major spin-off/sequel in the near future is due to Oku´s other manga which all sadly sucked and i have lost faith in him as a writer outside his Gantz work. Gantz represents all his world-views and interests according to interviews by him so i can´t see him staying away for too long. The setting brings too many story opportunities and he should license the world out to be frank.
A few years outside the spotlight and the right money will bring him back.
I lastly managed to mostly enjoy Phase 3. It works well as a horror/suspense manga but Tae sadly turned into a carrot on the stick which that sucked. The vampires in Phase 2 are an entirely different can of worms. God were they pointless!
Edit: And it´s "back" after only 2 years and one earlier than predicted.
