Looking for something similar to Ghost Hunt and Shinrei Tantei Yakumo with common theme of mystery and horror. Ghost Hunt may not be exactly detective but they do try to solve a lot of paranormal mysteries.

I'm looking for something that is scary but not all the time. Like there's small comedic reliefs here and there. Also, something episodic.

(Not necessarily shoujo at all).

/EDIT: For people that will recommend more of these types, here are some additional filters!

- I need it to be eerily scary. Like that blood-bath arc in Ghost Hunt.
- Good looking detective please
- Romance is not a must, better off as a subplot even.

Something like Kiben Gakuha, Yotsuya Sensei no Kaidan too!

I've created a list of series you guys have recommended and I'm currently trying them out. Thanks a lot and keep them coming guys~

Supernatural Investigation Department

It's not shoujo or manga, it's a webtoon. It has a detective though solving paranormal mysteries.

Arago is definitely what I'm looking for! Thanks!

Thank you for all the recommendations!

I thought I would contribute to my own thread. I recently found Kiben Gakuha, Yotsuya Sensei no Kaidan and it's perfect. It's scarily creepy but there's a comedic relief to it.

Yuureitou perhaps? The main protagonists are, more or less, detectives. It's not really scary, but it does have quite a few eerie gore scenes, as well as some funny spots.

Mouryou no Hako should fit, even though it takes some time and doesn't have this "light" part to clear the awkward atmosphere it creates. Still - It's somewhat like an old fashioned horror trip.

Also, since "Yotsuya" is also one of my fav's, maybe the creepy Ibitsu and :REverSAL might at least be worth a glance, although they miss the detective main character.

Thank you for all the replies! If I haven't replied to your manga recommendations yet, it might have been because they're almost completely scanlated, so I want to wait until they're done.

On the other hand, I've finished Kemonotachi no Yoru like @hisui87 suggested. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for because it wasn't scary enough and it wasn't episodic. But I didn't originally ask for episodic manga and only recently added that in. Also, I think people thought I wanted mainly shoujo so kept on recommending them, not that it's a bad thing laugh . Either way, it was good despite being a little short and not as creepy, thanks hisui87!

Onto the newly recommended posts.
@Morrelan, thanks!
@Ziggy, I've seen the drama and I wasn't particularly impressed by it sad
@Yankee-chan, I'll try Mouryou no Hako, thanks!
I also looked into Ibitsu, and that is indeed way too creepy for me. I need subtle creepiness with different death cases. Since I got scared shitless by Ibitsu, not sure if I should try out :REverSAL. Thank you very much though!

Also, @Tsubamex, I haven't started it yet but oh man Keishichou Tokuhanka 007 sounds DELICIOUS. I think this may be perfect too. Only a few volumes left until it's complete so I want to wait for it though.

Just read Forest of lore and thought you'd enjoy it. Its not long but it is really creepy and though it doesn't have any laugh out loud funny moments it still has various oases of calm and ordinary life. They aren't detectives but they do investigate the paranormal.

Glad you liked the other suggestions, hopefully you'll enjoy this too.

The only two I can think of off the top of my head are City of Dead Sorcerer and Yami no Matsuei.

CDS is an ongoing Korean webtoon centering around a serial killer and the detective who occasionally crosses paths with him. It's got a bit of gore and definitely gets creepy at times, but it also has a good amount of comic relief and very likeable characters. And I think the detective is quite attractive, even if he is a bit older. biggrin

YnM is pretty gory as well and is about shinigami who solve mysteries on Earth. It's shoujo, so there's a multitude of bishounen, including the main characters, and it's also pretty funny a lot of the time. The only thing about this one is that the author seems to be stuck in a potentially permanent hiatus. It's also pretty slashy, so if that's not your thing, beware - it does have mentions of mxm rape, etc.

Wish I could help more, but I can't really handle much horror, especially gore. dead Good luck! smile
