I'm looking for romance, preferably between two adults, who understand each other and who don't have all of the silly over-the top misunderstandings typical in some manga relationships. I really like the dynamics between Riza and Roy in fullmetal alchemist, and even Izumi and Sig. The manga doesn't have to focus on the romance, but some indication of it would be nice. Kimi wa Petto is a good example as well, I think. I would love it if there is really good character development of both the parties involved and a well thought out complex relationship would be ideal. Quirks and cute funny things are fine, just no teenage stupidity please. I don't mind too much if there are very mature teenagers, but would still prefer two intelligent and relatively equal adults.

Please no ecchi, hentai, adult, yaoi, yuri.

The best example of this I can think of is Bonnouji, which is excellent.
Natsu no Zenjitsu could be good too, a little drama but not too bad.
The focus of Solanin isn't romance but more of coming of age, but it is also very good.
I haven't finished reading Densha Otoko but I think it would apply.
Can't See Can't Hear But Love deals with adults, however there are misunderstandings (although more serious ones) and some drama.
Honey and Clover is fantastic and arguably the best blend of romance, mature comedy and slice of life out there. If you haven't read it you really should, or even better watch the anime which had really good production values, music and voice acting.

Hoshi no Koe
Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan
Saikano
Nodame Cantabile
Otoyomegatari

I find it ironic how you want romance between adults but don't want adult as a genre laugh I highly suggest you check out adult manga if you want to see mature relationships.

Have a look at another recently started thread. You might find some inspiration there:

Maybe Mars it's a romance with a more dark setting and it dont have the typical over the top high school way of showing it. instead it's a bit more realistic.

A Delicious Relationship should suit. A girl who has led a pampered life decides that she wants to be a chef.
