Edit: I've been tossed a wonderful manga that will make me utterly happy <3 Off the market again, for now...
Hi!
I'm looking for an emotional project (uplifting, inspiring, tragic, twisted, or haunting; open to all genres) to work on. I'm a veteran scanlator (translated dozens of volumes), and am currently working in a group that does cute n' fluffy works (bamboo-feathers.livejournal.com). But I'm about to get cavities (and I'm well ahead in translating my projects there), so I'd like to work on something more mature to give me a break. Instead of starting a new group and scanning my own manga (so much more work O.o), I figure it'd be best to scratch this itch by working on something for another group.
I'm relatively picky in what I like:
1) Title must be complete in Japan; not scanlated; not licensed; under 5 volumes
2) I'm looking for a manga that evokes emotion in the reader. This can be any genre: shoujo, seinen, josei, shounen, BL; drama, horror, romance, action, etc. Emotional works usually have a good amount of narrative (vs. speaking), and very little comedy/fluff. Cute romances are not emotional. Tragic romances are. I generally prefer emotion through non-romantic bonds (family/friendship), however.
3) Nothing with excessive fanservice/smut.
If you aren't sure if your manga fits the bill, you can send me some raws and I'll be able to tell you. One chapter is usually enough for me to tell if the manga has the right atmosphere or not.
Speed: I'm not fluent, but I've been doing this a long time. I can translate a very easy volume with little text in a weekend. On the other hand, if it's full of text and "hard" concepts (medical/sci-fi/historical), it'll be a chapter a month.
Feel free to PM me/post with options, or just email me directly at kalendel@gmail.com. Hoping for a break from the fluff!

This is exactly how I like to see translators requesting work. It makes it so much easier to narrow down projects.
PM'ed you as well.

Kalendel, it might be easier to find manga that fits your criteria and then approach a group with it in mind, even if they must then obtain the raws. Some people might not even really read your post carefully and just start asking you to join...
My group, as well as many others, would be glad to help a good series become available to the English-reading world, regardless of genre.

But I honestly think it's infinitely more interesting as a translator for people to approach with different projects, some by authors I may never even have heard of. That's the fun part: Getting out of my comfort zone (my list of favorite authors) and being exposed to others that I may not even have considered reading before.

@Castellan & hatsumimi99
I actually do have a bookshelf with some great manga that I love (and obviously fit my criteria). But, the point of me offering to translate for another group is so that I don't have to do the scanning (or editing, or releasing) myself. So tossing out the manga I own as ideas doesn't work; they're all obscure, and don't have public raws.
...and I myself am also hoping to hear about some new authors that I don't know about
P.S.: I'll go through all the PMs and such later tonight, thanks!

This is just tentative, but would either of the two mangas below interest you?

Haven't really read them or looked at them to know for sure if they meet your criteria, and I can't even promise if we'll work on them, but having a translator is a start.

Good to see you still around, after closing down SiH. Hope you find a group and title you can enjoy and relax with
Now my little scanlation world looks a bit friendlier again.

Some groups always purchase raws regardless of whether or not public raws exist or not. Public raws are generally not that great in terms of quality in the first place. I would not let the fact that a work is obscure or has no public raw dissuade you from suggesting it. Those are generally the works most worth working on anyways. Outside of it being completely out of print and unavailable even through second-hand purchases, it shouldn't be that difficult to persuade groups that are interested in working on similar stuff as you to procure proper raws.

Oh, I agree completely about using public raws, Laika. It's not something I do, myself. But, personally, I couldn't ask another group to purchase a manga sitting on my bookshelf, just because I'm not in the mood to scan it myself. It would make sense for me to scan and translate the manga for the group. But... not in the mood to scan Thus, the appeal for other people to toss me stuff.
From the series people tossed me, I've actually found another mangaka I'm definitely going to follow, so it's been a success all around =D
