although colour adds impact to a picture, this is a manga.
When i draw my own sketches (not manga), i make another copy, add colour, but in the end it took to much time and the picture didn't have the fine details afterwards...(this is usually the case)
anyways, in my opinion, a black and white image can be just as good as a coloured image.
Colouring the picture just takes too much time, probably just have a color page like, once every few chapters or something. just like always eyes
But, sometimes colouring the page in manga ruins the picture, though that actually depends on the artist's drawing style (eg. Minami Kanan, her coloured pictures aren't that great i gotta say....)

EDIT: I still like reading webtoons in color though, since i'm used to it....

If a manga is originally in black and white, then an occasional color spread for the cover page or first few pages will be a treat

If a manga is originally in color, it'd be weird if it was suddenly black and white. (usually webcomics are in color so it'd be weird if its black and white)

So for me, no real preference. I'm not a huge fan of fans coloring mangas though b/c the lines for a black and white manga are there for a purpose and when a fan just colors them, they soften the lines and it just looks weird since it may not be the colors that the mangaka would choose.

I prefer black and white pages (even ignoring the fact that they're cheaper). It's mostly because I just like the feeling of black and white--I think that it has a lot of charm to it and sort of a classy and reserved feel.

Another reason is to avoid one of the maladies that afflicts anime. One of the many things I dislike about anime is how the line-art is far too often filled in with very large patches of single, solid colors (looks sort of like paint-by-numbers, because there are just solid colors and so little detail). This has a cartoonish and corny look, so there's no way I can take the series seriously. The lazier the animators are, the larger the single-color areas get (less detail), and the more cartoony it looks. Keeping color out of manga pages helps avoid this--mangaka trying to make stuff cheap/fast resort to this method, and adding color makes it so noticeable and obvious that it would ruin their entire manga for me, even if the line-art and story were good. In black and white, even if the mangaka gets lazy and there are large areas of a single "color," I don't find it to be nearly as noticeable and I don't get that cartoonish, corny feeling when I look at it.

One last reason: Of course I like beautifully colored, well-done artwork, but if the pages of the manga are all colored (especially if there are bright colors), it is kind of distracting for me. A beautiful colored picture makes me want to stop and look at it, and if I'm doing that, I lose focus on the story.

I accidentally clicked the wrong option :'l
I've read a few webtoons that are coloured at varying qualities (IE; Friendly Winter vs Story of Someone We Know) and I really did like the colours. They enhanced the experience because they accented the style and genre of the webtoons.

I prefer black and white, however. It's just more "manga" to me (flakey way to put it, I know)

I prefer black and white because the art can be very detailed or simple. Even if it's black and white I can imagine all the colors I want. It's all in the head ^.^

Yeah I prefer it black and white. Colour is nice once in a while, but a full colour manga feels strange to read. Having said that, if manga was always in colour, it wouldn't feel strange. It's only because black and white is what I'm used to, and I associate it with manga.
I'd probably get used to it if it turned into full colour. But yeah, black and white is just fine.

I prefer color now. Well especially if its a manhua people talk about detail i guess none of them read some manhuas. They have more detail than a lot of manga and the art work is good. I read manga, manhau, and manhwa. I guess when people think about color they probably thinking about manhwa webcomics. Now they lack a lot of detail.

Does anyone know what was the result on the poll 3.5 years ago?

I like black and white art better. But I've seen some pretty amazing coloured ones.
