I don't know how anyone can read lamely translated light novels in the first place... which I'm sure aren't exactly literature even in their original language, lol... I just checked out this particular example and couldn't get more than a few lines into it. Ugh.

Because the story is good?
Originally, I wasn't sure about reading a novel either but after watching animes/reading the mangas like Highshool DxD, Chrome Shelled Regios, Suzumiya Haruhi, Sword Art Online, Spice and Wolf, etc and then left hanged like that while other people who already read the novel are talking about awesome shits, I definitely intrigued to read the original series.

And frankly, it turns out to be worth the time. It also explained much better in the original series regarding many things that might be vague or unexplained in the manga/anime adaptation.

MC that's weak in the anime/manga adaptation became a total badass in the current volume.
The unsolved relationship between MC and the love interest is also progressing much further or they already became a couple.
Plot thickens and the story keep advancing.
Etc.

Ofc, not everyone can enjoy reading a book contains mostly of texts and few pictures (I myself think that manga/anime is much more enjoyable) but it's definitely worth it because of the story.

Angel Densetsu yeah he's not "strong" but definitely monster material
Break Blade maybe? not sure how you feel bout mecha so...
Tora Kiss - A School Odyssey its ecchi so... dunno if you want that or not

these 4 are mainstream so prob already suggested but
Beelzebub
One Piece
Naruto
Bleach

also a couple of webtoons
Noblesse
TAL
Tower of God
A Fairytale for the Demon Lord

"Monster-like" main character:

Brave 10 - The range of powers is pretty well-blanced, at least as far as I have been reading it, but the main characters point of view and image is close to a ice-cold killer by times. So, some may say he has the kind of nature you requested.

Gangsta. - As one of my absolute favourties, of course I have to recommend it here. One of the main characters (Nicolas) is somewhat like a monster, once he gets into a fight and concentrates on the opponent, while his personality is not getting lost and well shown in other situations.

Mugen no Juunin - The main character is a ronin and cursed with immortality, so you can guess, what is happening once he gets into a fight - or wounded.

Samurai Deeper Kyo - Rather usual recommendation coming up with a strong main character ...

Blood+ - In the beginning the female main character may not seem like it, but once the plot deepens and you get to know more, her true colors come through and you get a climpse of the monster behind.

Jackals - A Manhwa setting up "monster" like killers against each other.

And there is Basilisk, which also comes up with lots of monster-like characters, which you better not get too attached to. Kkk.

Oh I can easily enjoy reading books, lol. Just not poorly written ones. Can't get past awkward sentences and randomly inserted Japanese.

I actually hate books, novels, didn't even read harry potter and it was a book we read in a university children's literature course. And light novels usually get a manga adaptation and then an anime version, Baka to test, boku wa tomodachi ga sukunai, zero no tsukaima, oreimo, and infinite stratos ...

Well, I like books quite a lot. Spent all of my school years reading novels between, during and after classes... now I listen to audiobooks every day while working, etc...

Not sure why it's necessary to argue about whether or not light novel being written and translated well is relevant to its enjoyability. Everyone has different tastes and there's no need to waste your breath about what people should or should not like.

OT now.
First request:
Hataraku Maou-sama!
Eat-Man
Hellsing
Superior
City Hunter

Second request: not sure what counts as cool so I kinda disregarded that.
Saikano
Horimiya
Seto no Hanayome
Usotsuki Lily

Sword Art Online fits both categories but opinions on this series is mixed to say the least.

Although I know everyone has their own tastes and preferences, but you're definitely missing out on some really amazing stuff by avoiding reading Japanese Light Novels.

If millions of people out there can read them, then it's clear that the problem is not with the translations but with the perspective and attitude of the reader, i.e., with 'you'.

As for the suggestion, since you're asking for a 'monster' MC, I can't think of anyone else other than Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, in terms of both brains and brawn.

Well that's just silly. I suppose there's something wrong with me if I can't stomach Twilight and most of the pathetic YA crap being piled in the shelves these days too, lol. Lets not forget the whole of romance genre fiction.

And I did rather enjoy the first one or two Twelve Kingdoms novels... but only because I just love the anime so much, and perhaps because they received professional translation.

Embalming: Another Tale of Frankenstein
while ongoing, is pretty good. Literally monstrous characters in general, but the main character, while not the strongest flat out, gets powered up when he goes into a fit of rage and he really wants to rip up the other monsters in it something fierce. So, more of a ferocity monster than a power monster.

Kenshin
lol same author The main character is able to win his fights ONLY because he is much stronger than his opponents because they're out to kill him and he isn't. Also he was a super infamous assassin in the past. Amazing classic shounen.

Sun-Ken Rock
also ongoing is an EPIC manly manga with the main character, while getting put on the ropes a great deal, always seems to be holding back on his opponents.

Onepunch Man
ongoing~~ and the main character can rip Goku a new one any day of the week. Just take a look at this.

I knew for sure that you're going to use "Twilight" to make some lame excuse.
A sensible, sound and understandable person can clearly understand what I was trying to say.
So yes, you're right, there is something wrong with 'you'.

It's your own loss to be so narrow-minded, so I'm not going to talk about this any further.

As for the suggestion, "Rurouni Kenshin" (mentioned by Gaijinwiki) is also not that off the mark I guess.

Sorry for using the one title I knew you'd recognize. I can assure you there are a hundred others just like it.
