Character is what she / he fights

I'm looking for manga / anime where the main character is the non-human race that she or he fights against.
Preferably the characters are unaware of their circumstances.
The plot must be serious, so no comedies or anything light-hearted. No typical shoujo demon king/poor human romance or anything like that.
If Yaoi, mark as such.

Examples:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Blood+: Main character is a queen of the beings she is made to fight against.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: The Witches are just "developed" Magical Girls.

Spoilers.
There is some comedy being a shounen and all, but when it chooses to get serious....
Either the manga or the anime is good, but I think the full blown effects of this sort of thing are better in the anime.

There's a story like that in Blue Drop, half-alien girl is aware that she's part alien though. She fights in a rebellion against them.

I'll agree with D.Gray-man. And no worries, the mangaka is still alive; just on an indefinite hiatus.

Blue exorcist serious/not serious? I'm not sure...it gets very dark at times and very light
Ajin though they weren't fighting the species directly, humn beings as a whole were.
Malicious code
Jokers not the mc thus far, only other cast members.
Violinist of hameln, mainly the sequel though. Plus in terms of plot it starts of light and then gets really dark (sequel, I'll admit I haven't read of the first one.)
Chairudo has what you're looking for but they are aware of their situation.
Owari no seraph similar plot but not quite the same, along the same lines so thought you may be interested.
