There has been some confusion recently over our policies for webcomics. In the series description, we ARE allowing a URL to the original webcomic (such as a link to a specific page on Naver). An example of this can be seen on Tower of God.

And as a reminder, we do not allow fan-made webcomics to be added as series to MangaUpdates. A fan-made series is something you try to publish yourself, without the aid of places like Naver or Daum. In general, we do not allow anything fan-made. All approved series must be backed by reputable publishers, including all OEL.

Out of curiosity, why are doujinshi allowed but not fan-made webcomics? I don't care about these things, but it does seem odd to me.

Ok, but what about Orange Marmalade? The link was there before but it has been removed.

Print dj's have a goal of being printed, which gives the creators incentive to do a really good job - because if you don't, then they won't sell and you can't recoup your printing costs.

When you put something on the internet to share with the world for free, there's not necessarily the same incentive to be really good. That's not to say that there aren't many excellent fancomics out on the internet. BUT you would either have to allow ALL to be posted here (which means there would be a ton of trash that looks like it was made by a four-year-old, or was only one page long) or you would need someone to moderate and decide which were worthy, and had the same quality of print dj's. But then that would be a subjective opinion, and who would get to decide?

That's not Word of God, just my opinion.

I guess some people need more explanation about 'fan-made webcomics', I think lambchopsil means stuff like someone draw some lines and then calls it a webcomic. You know, those stuff that is meant as a joke and can't be called a real comic or manga.

Doujinshi is a different matter as this is a comic/manga were the artist and mangaka put a lot of effort, sweet, tears and sometimes saliva (18+ stuff).

At least, it would be welcome to give clearer description and if it is allowed for OEL.

That's why the news - many people go around and delete the links thinking they're not allowed.
So if there's a missing link, you can just go ahead and add it yourself.

Objection! You just told me that looking for a group, sinfest and megatokyo weren't done to do a very good job? I disagree.

Also another thing: Do you know how many shitty art doujins there are out there at comiket? Just because the art isn't nice it doesn't mean the story isn't. Even at Daum and Naver there's art where I think "WTF is this crap!".

Reputable publishers isn't something you become by having a circle and release one doujinshi at comiket.

I am of the opinion that if someone actually took the time to make something, go check the cute sakura x hinata doujin or Shizuru x Natsuki doujin, I believe they did their best. Of course they should get a separate tag which tells us that they aren't the normal Japanese doujinshi.

That's my 2 cents on the matter.

Don't we have a few though, like Onepunch-Man (ONE). I mean I understand not adding western webcomics, for the same reason you don't add western comics.

What about OEL webcomics that are also published in print form and/or are backed by an online webcomic hoster that operates as a publisher?
For instance, MangaMagazine allows anyone to upload webcomics, but they have a premium OEL manga section where only the top and most popular series are allowed. The artists and writers of premium series have an option of selling prints online on places like Amazon and/or in their own store and are being payed for their works [they have deadlines too and operate somewhat like Naver]. They're generally pretty high quality and even fit published manga standards [artists such as DED or Shilin, just to name a few]. Just wondering...
Also, thanks for clearing up this thing about webcomic links. I've added a couple links to original webcomics before and they've all been mysteriously removed for unknown reasons. It just made me really angry, since it's hard to prove that some series, such as :REverSAL, are actually webcomics without giving the actual links. :/

Original OPM was most likely added because it is just that - the original version of a manga that is being published in Tonari + Murata Yuusuke is drawing. Look at the series IDs - the original version was added twenty thousand entries after the manga.
Also, as an already published author, ONE might follow a slightly different set of rules on MU.

Isn't Naver some kind of blog like site? It'll be like putting a manga on pixv.

Naver is a huge site - there's a lot of things on it. We're talking about comic.naver.com here.
