Recently for all the titles of the Weekly Shonen Jump, the 'serialized in' category has been renamed into 'Shuukan Shounen Jump'. I know that it is how you say weekly in Japanese but seriously who uses that term in English community. There is a thing called principle of least astonishment and this change goes clearly against it.

Wow, you're right... hundreds of series, and they all got switched to "Shuukan Shounen Jump." But I think this change is good--Shuukan Shounen Jump is the magazine's official title, after all (well, its romanization, I mean). And I think we really should be using the official titles for all magazines. Not just as a matter of principle--it makes updating easier too. (Usually when I find the magazine (Japanese name, since I find the info on Japanese sites) a series is featured in, I have to go to the publisher's page here to check how the magazine's name is entered here, since sometimes it's different from a direct romanization. This is a hassle, and when updating a large number of series, adds up to a lot of wasted time. Just being able to romanize the official name and know that it's the name used in the database would be much easier.)

I know it is the official name in Japanese but this is an English site and the official name in English and the name which used everywhere in English is Weekly Shounen Jump. So are you sure next series added will be made under shuukan and not weekly if it is made by a user who don't know it has changed ?

Well ideally it would be best if a title could have several romanisation/translation like it is the case for the editor.

Well if there was a redirection or a multiple naming system I wouldn't care. But since there isn't I think the principle of least astonishment should prevail. This is a basic principle of internet because of another principle : never underestimate the capacity of people to make mistake and not understand something even if it seems trivial for you.

Also some people have asked to know the release schedule of magazines in other topics. When the name is weekly or monthly something, they know immediately, whereas with Shuukan and Gekkan they have to know Japanese. Again even if you think that it is easy to make the relation, some people (in particular young readers) won't make it.

On another note, is this renaming thing something in progress because currently there are a lot of inconsistency with this romanized rule.

Usually I don't care much about how things are categorized, but this is one I actually have an opinion about.
I strongly agree with somemango. I've been surfing anime/manga themed forums for a while (mostly to troll, to be honest) and have seen people who have made 100's or 1000's of posts and not even know what "baka" means. So the likelyhood that everyone will figure out that "shuukan" means "weekly" is so unbelievably low that it's the equivalent of expecting every Japanese person to know a certain English word that's not used often in their language, i.e. weekly or supercalifragilisticexpialidocious...
Maybe that's a rough comparison (it's early and it's Saturday), but you get my drift.
Personally, I believe there should be some sort of category like "associated names" where you can have several names for the "serialized in" section, similar to how there are different interpretations/translations for a single manga title.

@holy'bell- This has nothing to do with rules. You guys are trying to make it easier for users to find manga, old and new, correct? Then perhaps if you were to accept both names, it'd make using this site a more pleasant experience, instead of frustrating from the inability to find a certain publisher due to the lack of knowledge in the Japanese language. Not everyone is good at finding out things on their own using the internet. It's simple business management. All you're doing by switching names is making a headache for those who help run the site. There'll be plenty of pointless messages ranging from "what does 'shuukan' mean?" to "what happened to Weekly Shounen Jump?" And so long as new users come to this site, those questions will be endless. It's quite simple to even rename it "Weekly/Shuukan Shounen Jump" or "Shuukan(Weekly) Shounen Jump." It's will help curve the confusion in the very least.

Most people that don't know the commonly used Japanese words aren't likely to looks at the publishing magazine though, since they probably don't care which magazine a series is from. If they do care, they can just click on the link, see the big 3, and put 2 and 2 together. However, there's no harm in having the English translation as an alternate name in the magazine info either. Actually, if there's a feature to show if a magazine is weekly, monthly, semi-monthly, etc as well, that'd be great.

At this point, I think it makes sense to revise the Publication pages so that they function more like the Publishers pages, allowing alternate names, country/language of origin, and other notes such as release frequency and print/digital.
