I just read Otoyomegatari and was left in awe. Is there any seinen/josei romance that has beautiful art and calm/mature characters like this one? No triangle love please.

Thanks very much for your suggestion!

Okigen, I suggest you use the "Advanced Genre Search'', where in the bottom you can include or exclude categories you'd like to add to your search, so you can have a more detailed result matching your taste. Of course you have to roam through a bunch mangas' synopsis, but it's just worth it, sometimes you even find more than what you were looking for. smile
I'm sorry I couldn't help you more directly. I really like mature, but troubled characters, but good luck anyways! smile

You should check the author's other works. I haven't read it but Emma is one of the popular ones. Also, check the sugestions on the Manga's page, there is a couple of high score ones.

As for something i have personally read, the only seinen romance work that I have read that comes to my mind is Melo Holic, with is not as calm as you may want, and has a bit of mystery and supernatural put into it, but i think it is quite good, so you shoudl give it a try. (It is a Webtoon)

Whoa...... you won't find many series on the level of Otoyomegatari. Main characters like that are rare even in badly-drawn series. On top of that, very few series have the level of art of Otoyomegatari.

Here's a few you could check out:
Spice and Wolf
Aria
xxxHolic

Your complete list is not visible, so I'm not sure if you've read these or not...

Udon no Onna
Futago and if you like it, read Six Half and Bitou Lollipop, both shoujos, but really really worth reading.
Solanin tragedy warning....
Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan more tragedy. And you should read the mangaka's author works as well. Seriously top notch.
Sekine-kun no Koi
and, & though there is a love triangle.

I also thought of GEORGE Asakura's Oboreru Knife. It is a shoujo, but I think it might fit what you're looking for. The imagery, and just the atmosphere that Asakura creates... And the art is beautiful.

EDIT:
Hmm. I thought of some more...
Joou no Hana quasi-historical.
Kami-sama ga Uso o Tsuku.
Joou no Hana
14-sai no Koi, and from the same mangaka, Game Over (MIZUTANI Fuka)
Cheese in the Trap. There is a love triangle (kind of), but it's very much worth reading.
Akai Michi, Shining..., Cousin, Mizutama Puzzle, Gozen 3-ji no Muhouchitai as well.

Thanks a lot guys smile I have read some of your recommendations before and will try the rest. Still admittedly, after trying searching by tags and genre I still can't find characters like Amir and Karluk anywhere cry Maybe I'm just too demanding...

Perhaps it is easier to give some examples of my favourite manga? So far what I love best are Maiden Rose, Hyakki Yakoushou, Superior, Kare Kano, Otoyomegatari. In general I tend to love detailed art, mature/optimistic characters and troubled/taboo relationships (but no triangle love).

Any more comments? confused

That's because that type of character is really rare... most shoujos flood us with ditzy, stupid females and hope that the lowest common denominator will appeal to us. =_=;; But it takes an intelligent and mature author to write such characters. So it's not you, it's a supply issue.

Seconding Cheese in the Trap by the way. Well, deviating a bit from your original request:
Saver
Basara
The Tarot Cafe
The Bride of the Water God
Masca
Ciel
Absolute Witch

Dunno if the characters fit what you want, but most of the above have gorgeous art and rather taboo relationships. There are some love triangles, but for most it's just a main couple with a forgetable third wheel.

Since you listed Superior:
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - "Kono Watashi no Mono Tonare, Yuusha yo" "Kotowaru!" maybe?

I really love Otoyomegatari too~~!
Dear Mine - A little similar due to the older female and younger male part.
Hoshi no Koe - Really beautiful and worth it.
Skip Beat! - Main lead can be really mature at times, and I love the story!
Issho ni Neyou yo - This is not bad~
Fruits Basket - hehehe, my childhood favourite~
Love Com - This is different from what you want, but it's super hilarious and nice!
Kieli - Short but not bad.
Shinigamihime no Saikon - Female lead is super mature.
Tada, Kimi o Aishiteru - This is.....Awww.
Tokyo Crazy Paradise - Really love this!!
Wasure Yuki (AMANO Shinobu) - This is a oneshot but, <3
Flowers of Evil - Taboo relationship and art is really nice.

I second:
Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan
Emma
Basara sad

Hourou Musuko

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I was happy with the way the romance turned out, though shippers may disagree.
