Well the æ phoneme sounds like the "a" in cat, that or rat.
Hey don't be so angry xp It took me some time to understand this too. You can still be an English major lol

I'm not angry, but I have given up. I hate writing in general so there's no way I'm going to switch majors. Writing doc comments is enough writing for me.

I pronounce magi so the a sounds like the a in cat and the i sounds like the letter i.
About the æ symbol...
Don't confuse æ symbol/phoneme in the IPA (international phonetic alphabet) with æ or ae found in the everyday writing of English or other languages. In IPA it represents the sound "a" in cat. In normal writing, the way it is pronounced depends on the language. Also, in some languages æ is a letter in the alphabet.

Magi is one of the most difficult series to talk about in English. And unfortunately, one of the only series I get the opportunity to have a two sided conversation about in real life. The pronunciation is so difficult because Mah-gee sounds awkward in English even though it's correct in Japanese and Maggy sounds even worse because it's like someone's name. I kind of want to say Maj-eye where the 'a' is like the 'a' in 'cat' because it sounds more natural, but it feels like a lie to say it that way.
I decided to stick with the Japanese pronunciation.

Oh god. That seems like something meant to be used by academics or someone really dedicated to getting this right. I'm gonna pass on learning this properly.

I'm not even sure why there's a "topic" on pronunciation when the series characters themselves have said the term in the anime... so it shouldn't be up for debate... or "opinions".
Japanese: "Ma-Gi" (based on the katakana)
Most other people would say it as "Mah-Jai" (famous example is how the word was used in The Mummy).

Okay this is getting ridiculous. Can a mod please change the poll and topic title to "How do you prefer to pronounce Magi?"? I didn't think so many people would get so worked up when I made this.

Yeah, I don't get it either. When I read your OP, I though it was clear you were not asking about the "correct" way of pronouncing it, rather than polling how people actually say it. Two different things.

I prepher to speak 'mah-gi', because it's sound similar with russian translation In some way it will be 'маг' (mah-g) - magus, 'маги' (plural) - magi ('mah-gi').
But if I will say "Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic", I will pronounce ['meɪʤaɪ] - mei-jai.
It is just a habit.

I pronounce it the way it's written. I don't really get the English pronouncing science. Don't make it so difficult. ま・ぎ…あ・ほ
