I often have problems with the way novels are handled. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Here is my problem. First of all, I don't usually read/follow the novels. So when a manga I follow is adapted from a novel, it gets confusing.

Going through the list of releases, I see the series that I"m following (or wishlist) with no markings, so I think something is wrong and click on the link, only to find out that I'm looking at the novel. This has happened a few times. This also has caused me to become confused on the current chapters released and other information etc. This has happened to me often and sometimes to the point which I don't know what's what anymore.

I know it's listed under "Type" section that's it's a novel, manga, etc... but honestly I always skip that section and look straight at the releases section. Also even if it's listed under type, if there is a manga and novel version it gets confusing.

What I'm saying is there needs to be a better way to differentiate between the novel and manga of the same series (since they have the same name). How to do that, I'm not sure yet, but there must be a better way.

Thanks for listening -- END OF RANT --

Given this and you just basically admitting being slightly paranoid about something being wrong when everything is working just fine, what is there to fix? You did not mention any cases where your suspicion was warranted.

Have there been any such cases, where the reading lists or some such have actually failed you?

Unless there is a better suggestion to differentiate between the two, the naming is left as it is for the time being.

Could add novel to genre as well, which would make it easier to filter for searches and releases.

I may have a solution to use in the releases page, if it is not considered too obnoxious.

I was thinking about the system used at Nyaatorrents. They have a colored tag/symbol on the left side of each torrent name, indicating what is what. One for English sub releases, one for subs in other languages, one for raws etc.

So modify releases page so that a small tag or a color of certain kind indicates if a release is a novel or manga. You can further separate some other genres like Romance and Action or Shoujo and Shounen etc, if you can come up with a decent system. Just a little food for thought.

Note that I don't feel the need for this myself, but clearly at least the OP does. If this extra information can be displayed in a manner that does not aggravate the majority of the userbase, then I just don't see the harm in adding it.

All series that are novels are already indicated with a "(Novel)" at the end. holy`bell's stance is the one MU will be taking at this point in time.

A symbol would not work well with the current layout because we have less screen estate than Nyaatorrents (smaller rows). And colored symbols and rows will clash with genre highlighting.

Not possible since series can have multiple genres
