I really had to think hard about this one. But if I really could make the "perfect" whatever, I'd choose a TV series. It would be extremely well plot out (no filler moments), great actors, and have a definite end. Every moment would be guaranteed to be intense!

Though, realistically speaking with my abilities and circumstances, I'd probably only be able to write a novel or a mildly crappy art manga.

I think it's not about your favorite type of medium, but the most suitable medium for your story. Consider this, while Game Of Thrones is an awesome series, but a lot of people believe it wouldn't be as popular as today if GRRM started the saga on TV instead of written novel.

And the thing is, it was a very possible scenario since GRRM was a actually TV writer (Twilight Zone).

Where's the Visual Novel option?
And don't say that it falls under the "Game" category, because it doesn't.

could a visual novel be considered a graphic novel?

My first choice would probably be a novel. This might seem strange since I rarely read novels, but I've written short stories before. (I also used to write poetry without having any interest in reading other poets works). My second choice would be a live-action TV show. I'd consider doing an animated show if the story is a fantasy one, because then I wouldn't have to worry about whether the special effects look realistic or not.

I'm not underestimating visual novels. Sure, many visual novels are closer to light novels than racing games for example, but you miss my point. The variety of video games is huge. I understand visual novels are very varied too, but you don't seem to understand the variety of video games. Saying some visual novels are video games but others are not is not practical. And all other video games are not similar enough to only pick out visual novels from the definition. What about graphic adventures and text adventures? Dating sim, TRPG, space/combat flight sim and audio games?

Can you put all of them under the same category? Of course you can. You have to limit the options available and separating only visual novel from video games is very biased. You want to make a visual novel? Choose "Game" and leave a comment. You want to make a city building sim? Choose "Game" and leave a comment. No point in having dozens of 0.x% options in the poll.

The distinction between animated and live-action would generally be unnecessary, but considering the audience 'tis not. I do think separating eastern and western graphic novels isn't necessary though. Mostly it would mean manga and you can always comment if you want to emphasize the distinctive style (which might be so also between different styles of manga).

Also how does "Game" (or "video game") become "3D video game" when you exclude visual novel? This further elaborates the view that you have a simple minded idea of a video game. It doesn't need to be 3D or even 2D.

I do understand your point though, but the point of this poll is elsewhere.

It all depends on the story. Sometimes it works better as a movie, game or whatever. There is no such thing as an absolute medium when it comes to entertainment, you have to adapt to time and audience.
Let's say Tekken was supposed to be a book at first. It could be done if the author's skilled, but its current game form is obviously the optimal.

Well, a novel first. So I have everything planned out (I'm in the midst of doing that for one of my many projects, called "The Engraved".)
After that's finished I plan on drawing a comic version of it (I already did that with the prelude of the novel, but I plan on redrawing it >.>...)
And while I'd like to see it animated or live-action, I know it's probably never going to happen so I won't get my hopes up XD.

WTF is a drama cd? If it's just some crap where people are recorded trying to act, we kinda of got out of that around the 1950's radio shows.

If I had an original story to write, I'd use the medium of a book. Comics are for kids, same goes for manga. IDGAF what anyone says, but it's pretty much the trust. At the very least, they're made for immature minds that need pictures because too much text bores them (that does include me, but I do read more books than manga, by far). If I were to write a story, pictures couldn't depict the twisted shit that flows forth from this mind if mine. If they somehow could, most stores wouldn't sell it.

You know what TV drama is, right? Basically a TV program excluding variety shows, reality TV, news, sports and such. Radio drama is pretty much the same except on radio. Monologue/dialogue, sound, music. Drama CD is radio drama that's released on CD. Many light novels and manga can get a drama CD version which is usually unrelated to the main storyline.

Some random drama CD's and links to the corresponding manga: Bamboo Blade, Boku no Chikyuu o Mamotte, Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai, Gintama, Inu Yasha, Mekakushi no Kuni, Taishou Yakyuu Musume, Yandere Kanojo.

Here's the (alas, very incomplete) list of manga adapted to drama CD: http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?category=Adapted+t o+Drama+CD

Your claim that manga is for children is idiotic. With your reasoning motion picture and theatre are for little children. It doesn't require much of a mind to be able to read books. There are plenty of both immature and mature books—same goes with manga. It's you who comes out as immature, or perhaps just ignorant.

I've always wondered why there are drama CDs too. It does seem old school, but I guess this is for when they can't afford to make an anime or movie out of the story. I wonder how popular they are in Japan though, because I don't think they would be popular in the west.

I know you don't care what I think, but comics and manga aren't just for kids. Maybe the ones you read are only targeted for younger audiences, but you definitely can't say that seinen, josei, or hentai are for kids. They are for people who appreciate having artwork along with their stories, rather than just for people who can't or don't want to read a lot of words.

The real question is what's the difference between a drama CD and a Radio Show. I mean in general they're umbrella'd under the term "Audio Drama"

They're both audio drama. Their names already tell you the difference. Drama CD is released on CD and Radio drama on radio. Kind of like the difference between OVA and TV anime.

Often there are both. Look at my examples. Gintama has manga, anime of several hundred episodes, specials, movies. Drama CD's are awesome—they're in not really old school. You could as well be saying books are ancient history because nowadays we have television.
