I do like romance series, but I'm starting to grow tired of tsunderes and sexually aggressive female characters. I'm looking for a series where the female lead does show her affection (as opposed to tsunderes), but in unbotrusive way (as opposed to the sexually aggressive characters). The character in question doesn't have to be an actual wife, but needs to be loving and supportive. Extra points if the guy isn't passive towards her.

What I want: plot, romance

Extra points: likable characters, action(?)

What I don't want: shounen-ai, shoujo-ai, hentai

Examples:
Otoyomegatari
Magico (IWAMOTO Naoki)
Onegai Teacher - at times Kei's and Mizuho's relationship is just like that, but the rest of the series is so-so

Semi-examples:
Tsuki Tsuki! - At the beginning of the series, the male lead manages to tame Luna into such character, but when more girls show up, she becomes more aggressive in order to compete with them. On top of that the protagonist is passive.
Re:Marina - The female lead fits quite a bit, despite the fact that she can be quite sexually agressive too, but the series becomes more and more borderline H as it progresses, so...

There's a distinct lack of tsunderes in Kanojo ga Flag o Oraretara. Most of the femmes are supportive.

Female lead in Nejimaki Kagyu reminds me of whatshername in Magico.
Natsu no Zenjitsu, although I'm not up-to-date on recent chapters.
So you're reading Otoyomegatari, but you haven't read Emma?

Unrelated note: Have you started reading Doubt! (AMANO Sakuya)? I think you'll like it, judging by your reading list.

Shinonome Yuuko wa Tanpen Shousetsu o Aishite Iru

The MC's brother's girlfriend is exactly what you're looking for I think. Interestingly enough she's the only person in this manga that openly shows emotions lol

I've watched the anime version of Emma and liked it a lot.

I've finished reading Midori no Hibi some time ago and I kind of can agree about Midori being this kind of character.

I've started reading Kanojo ga Flag o Oraretara and I'm liking it a lot. I've never thought that there were harem series (maybe except for Girls of the Wild's) in which the girls were that nice to the male lead. Thanks for the recommendation sunder.

As for the rest, I'll give them a try.

If you liked Kanojo ga Flag o Oraretara, I get a similar feeling when reading Yumekuri. Although, the main couple hasn't been established yet.

I skimmed through that recently (I remember reading a good deal of the chapters while at it anyway). I guess I'll wait for more chapters and probably for the romance to develop better before starting to read it for real. I'm not sure how to feel about the yuri side couple, but it shouldn't prevent me from reading this manga (unless the author forgets the male lead completly and focuses on those girls, which I doubt).

I finished reading Ai-Ren yesterday and I thought, that Ai grows into a character like I requested during the story. Needles to say, I liked this manga a lot... but it was so sad at the end.

I guess at times Kagari from Witchcraft Works acts the part too.

How about:

Akagami no Shirayuki-hime
Aoharaido
Ojousama wa Oyomesama ?

Orange Marmalade as well, once she gets over herself.

I'm mostly basing these recommendations off the fact that the female leads are quite open about their affections without being aggressive, and the male leads are interested too.

Hope this helps!

Sure, sounds good.

Edit: I've skimmed through some episodes of The Kabocha Wine that were rotting on my hdd and the female lead sure fits. The male lead is a bit of jerk (like many old-school shounen protagonists), on the other hand the female lead is very kind and nice towards him, seems to have an unending amount of patience for the guy and is quite open about her feelings, but isn't sexually aggressive.

Bonnouji
Mrs Angel married. Well actually isn't a whole lot between couple, but it's a funny read nonetheless.
Noragami so cute O_O
Ore Monogatari!! really like this one, though imo broship is its selling point ^^
Samurai Usagi married

It just came to me, but doesn't Asuna from Sword Art Online (I'm only familiar with the anime adaptation) fit the bill perfectly. I mean she might not have been it from the start, but after she gets romantically involved with certain someone (which happens rather soon by shounen standards), she does become this type of waifu character, doesn't she?

Now that I think about it, wasn't this part of the reason why the series was immensely popular?

P.S. I kind of remember tons of threads asking for characters similar to Asuna and not a lot good recommendations being made, so asking for the here same is probably not a good idea.
