So, I'm looking for manga that have a protagonist that is fairly strong to the strongest near the beginning of the series. I actually prefer this strength to be from the protagonist, rather than some external factor (given by someone else) or "sealed power that is being restored." I want to see a protagonist that is just that good.

For example, Yuusen Shoujo - Plug-in Girl hints in one of the first chapters that he got his power elsewhere. I do like the fact that he is working on himself to improve his strength.

Onepunch-Man is just amazing, which many others seem to agree. The fact that absolutely NOTHING challenges the main character, yet he has such a calm aura.

It's been a few months since I read the first part of Black Haze, but I think it had a setting of a powerful main character forced to hang out with weaker characters. I sort of like the idea, but have read several other manga/manhwa that failed to execute the approach to my liking. I've also read Noblesse, which is good but I don't actually care for the main character hanging out with the students.

I have used the "Strong from start" tag, but I feel quite a few series don't have this tag associated with them.

Aiki - The mc is kind of an ass though
Superior
Vinland Saga
Rurouni Kenshin - you may have read/watched this already
Fairy Tail - this too
Toriko - can be very wacky but enjoyable

Awesome, thanks! Read part of Vinland Saga. Watched Rurouni Kenshin a long time ago. I'll give the others a try!

Vampire Juujikai DO NOT LET THE ART DRIVE YOU AWAY!
Id is ridiculously strong and only gets stronger as the series goes on.
Ubel Blatt's MC is the most powerful swordsman after training for most of his young life.

PS: Don't worry about Ubel Blatt's rape tag. Its only in volume 0 and isn't very graphic.

Doesn't most of Id's power come from that who-was-it dragon? He was fairly strong to begin with, but honestly all that became pretty useless after he got his sword and dragon heart.

Anyways, um... I think I know some... let me think >.<
By strong you mean physically, or just strong?

Strong, but due to RPG effects...
1/2 Prince
Sword Art Online
Log Horizon

Physically strong:
Adekan
Dendrobates
Shirogane no Seija - Hokuto no Ken Toki Gaiden
Freesia (... I think? I can't remember really)
Itsuwaribito Utsuho
Kuroshitsuji
Mondaijitachi ga Isekai kara Kuru sou desu yo? Z (watched the anime, manga... well...)
Mutou Black (perhaps? I mean, there's only one chapter and I don't remember well)
Oguna - Opera Susanoh Sword of the Devil
Takeru - Opera Susanoh Sword of the Devil
Okashi na Futari (not action or shounen, but I just remember seeing that he's actually really strong)
Pure Blood
Qwan (can't remember)
Rain (perhaps external... but he's invincible right from the start)
Ryuu no Yuigon
Wedding
12 Nin no Yasashii Koroshiya - Leo Murder Case
[m]Boku no Kan de Bansan wo[/m]
Takahashi Miyuki's mangas, including 9 Banme no Musashi
Koori no Mamono no Monogatari
Crimson Spell (the mage I mean)
Pairon
Superior
Tao Tie Jie
X-Kai
Yasashii Ryuu no Koroshikata

Taught by someone:
Arachnid

Sports:
Adachi Mitsuru has some good ones, and generally pretty calm and stable in their power.
Real
Kuroko no Basuke
Nononono

Others... well, just basically strong:
Seimaden
Gu Fang Bu Zi Shang
Cantarella
Apothecarius Argentum
Taimashin (it's a bit confusing with the names, honestly, I have no idea what I read)
Kieli
Neji
Immortal Rain (highly recommend the side story too)
Rasetsu
Smargs won't Sing
Tensai Family Company
Zennou no Noa - The World of Lostmemories
THAT'S IT! THE LIST IS TOO LONG~~ me lazy... lol

*waits to see more suggestions* Been looking for these myself too, and to be honest, to not much avail.

I know, that's a lot. But well, see if there's any you like. Some may fit better than others, since I didn't limit it to shounen actions. There's more that I overlooked or just too lazy to look, but that's long enough right? Beware of shounen-ai and yaoi! There might be a few mixed in.

Shokugeki no Soma awesome protagonist, not an action manga but is very competitive.
God of Highschool is a fighting manga and protagonist is sold as pretty damn strong.
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei quite sure protagonist remains undefeated, though if you want to get very far in the story you will have to read the light novels (much further translated).
Mugen no Juunin mc is immortal.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha Story begins after mc has grinded up and confronts the demon lord.

@renseih
I can't speak for all the manga you recommended but most of the ones I do recognize do not fit. For instance 1/2 Prince has a normal RPG like progression where the main character gets stronger over time instead of dominating at the beginning of the story.

I'm speaking from impression, it's been a while since I read it so I can't say for sure. I had the impression she was pretty strong (for the level), and since she was the first person in the game, she had always been one of the highest levels around. Basically, what I'm saying is RPGs calculate the term "strong" differently. Even if the max lvl is 100, if the highest around is level 10, he is strong and the strongest. So Prince, who has always been in the lead, is considered "strong from the start". Besides, Prince had a talent with the sword, she's pretty crazy with it. If you add up everything... she's been pretty invincible.

Well, it's all personal opinion when it comes down to this. I can understand if you say that the time needs to skip until someone maxed out the level to be considered powerful from the beginning.

Kingdom. The main role is pretty strong, and continues to strengthen and is updated fairly regularily

@renseih
The way I figured it is that while she was one of the stronger players in the game, she lacks several qualities that make her a character that is powerful from the very beginning. Since she first has to learn the rules and a lot of the beginning of the story is spent learning and grinding and getting stronger I don't think it can qualify as a story about a character that is strong from the very beginning. Probably the most classic example of a character that is strong from the very beginning is Chrome Shelled Regios (Novel) try reading it and you'll see that the difference is where in most stories characters get stronger by training as the story progresses, in stories with truly strong protagonists, it is just more of their strength being revealed. Which actually just reminded me of another manga that has this kind of story.

King of Hell
EDIT: Also, Knight Run such epic battles.

Angel Densetsu - his strength comes from his face, but even so he's pretty strong
Dororo - quite cute
Jiraishin - god mod policeman
Koroshiya 1 - crazy killer
Bakune Young - he's strong, but mainly lucky
Alyosha! - assassin school girl!
Kyou kara Ore wa!! - lovable bastard
Natsume Yuujinchou - strong spirituality
Berserk - some several volume flashback, but at the start of the story he is very strong
Dorohedoro - multiple protagonists that are strong
Kuroshitsuji - a powerful demon helping a rich brat
Zettai Karen Children - 3 very powerful espers
Jesus - assassin teacher!

Hitsugime no Chaika he isnt exactly godmod strong, but he's in no way weak, and it's from training

Ruler of the Land he's weak and strong at the same time.... basically a massive ball of so much talent that it's dangerous to fight him for over 10 secs cuz he jacks all your techs.

Shingetsutan Tsukihime it's unfortunately a hidden power type deal, but he is ridiculously powerful in the right conditions.
