Hitoshi Iwaaki's science-fiction horror manga Parasyte (Kiseiju) is inspiring a television anime project that will be in production simultaneously with the two announced live-action films. The official website for the new projects will eventually open at kiseiju.com.

The story is set in a world where alien beings called Parasites come to Earth. They start taking over humans by entering in through their noses and ears and attaching themselves to their brains. One alien called Migi is only able to take over high school student Shinichi Izumi's right arm, and is unable to control Shinichi completely. Migi and Shinichi learn to co-exist, and the two battle other Parasites who see humans only as food.

Iwaaki serialized the manga in Kodansha's Afternoon magazine from 1990-1995. The 10-volume series (later reprinted in an eight-volume version) has more than 11 million copies in print. Mixxine, the company that eventually became Tokyopop, published Parasyte in its Mixxine magazine and later in compiled book volumes. Del Rey then republished the series from 2007-2009, and Kodansha Comics republished the manga again from 2011-2012.

Takashi Yamazaki (live-action Space Battleship Yamato, Always: Sunset on Third Street) is directing the live-action films with Shota Sometani (live-action xxxHOLiC, All Esper Dayo!) as Shinichi Izumi, Eri Fukatsu (Onnanoko Monogatari) as Ryōko Tamiya, and Ai Hashimoto (Blood-C: The Last Dark, live-action Another, Sadako 3D) as Satomi Murano. The films will open in December 2014 and 2015.

*heavy breathing*

Not something I was expecting almost 20 years after the manga
I guess people are finally okay with all the gore now

Hitoshi deserves it. Parasyte is one of the few completly perfect mangas i have read.
Maybe Historie is also within reach in the future. All the feelings inside me. Thx Madhouse.

Anime Cast Art & Staff Revealed.

Wow, just saw the new character designs and I am not happy with the changes. And lol wasn't expecting Aya Hirano to be voicing Migi as I always considered him male.

Well, it's pretty common for female voice actors to voice male characters, so that part doesn't worry me too much.

I've been hoping for this to happen ever since the series came out, but I had almost given up hope. Really glad to see the series is getting some attention lately (with new one-shots, 2 live action films and an anime series).

I just hope they manage to capture the dark, serious psychological aspect of the series. I always felt there was a strong sense of philosophy with the way characters reacted and evolved to what happened to them. Hopefully they don't skip important scenes (both big and small) nor do they over dramatize key moments.

The characters redesigns aren't ideal but it's understandable they would modernise the characters to be more modern. So long as they keep a grounded art style, which it looks like they are for the most part, I'm alright with the changes.

Madhouse i have been ocasualy harsh with you in the last 5 years but Parasyte and Hunter showed that you are the best in the business. I will never complain again. This kind of anime is only rarely made today i applaud you for the careful direction and the plausible and small changes the material. And what a score. The manga was a 10/10 roller coaster(it finishes strong !) and one of the very few perfect mangas/comic i have read.
This and Mushishi 2 are anime of the year. Dandy and Gits Arise are the runner ups.
2014 your occasional quality output was very nice(even Gundam is good again) to me i will not forget. Now if this team could do Dorohedoro, Vagabond or Vinland Saga i would melt on the spot. These people would have done a berserk tv show in a perfect world but that dream is dead now. Maybe in 10 years .The team´s Punisher ova was also a very decent actionmovie with a horrible but very overlookable story. 6,5/10 I hope that the Penis-hand bit survives. After all Madhouse drew a giant vagina before. Have fun googling that.

So far, I like the anime, just find out yesterday and I watched 9 episodes. At first, I did not like the new design, then I re-read the manga and they made good changes for briging it to the century.

Still don't get the glasses though, O_O

My only decception, is that they did cut off small scene that I thought important for the character...I always liked the scene in the train, where he don't let the teacher search his bag. XD or the comment about him being a son of some tugs.

overall, it is a good anime.

Yes the anime is very good. 9/10 as of now but he manga is still a prefect 10 due to it´s better pacing and calmer style. I also don´t like how the violence is still very much there but is kept of screen a bit as the manga´s unflinching portrait of that aspect is very well done if you ask me. Madhouse even skipped the tasteful nudity but that was expected i guess.
