^^ As said before, I wonder if I'm the only who read manga to escape from the pressure and stress in real life (that's probably why I'm addicted to the 'releases' page...)

First, of all when do you do it if you do? Is escapism really bad if it get to the point of addiction? Would it be wrong of me to even go as far as to speculate on the equation:

manga=escapism?
drugs=escapism?

(no offense, of course)

I'm not as much an escapist as some other manga readers are, I tend to lose myself in realistic settings like snowy mountains and deep jungle overgrowths and stuff like that. But not magical fantasy world crap.

sometimes maybe, but it would be more accurate (in my case) to say it´s an instrument of proscrination.
I don´t watch tv, neither go out with friends (don´t have a social life), so i read manga.

I think is just one of the many ways of escapism. TV/movies, anime, music, and books would be some other examples of it.

Well when I read it put myself in that world, it seems like real life is less exciting. But of course, RL is as exciting as you want to make it.

Lots of things can be used for escapism.

But even if you were the biggest manga otaku ever, I wouldn't put that on the same level as drugs, seeing as those actually physically bad for you. At worst manga is a "waste of time".

Generally I find that 'escapism' is just how people like to label other peoples' hobbies that they don't really understand.

Sometimes. Like if I'm really sad or just need to escape from reality for awhile. ^^;

Any kind of reading does it for me. It's not specifically manga, but I turn to manga in between when new novels come out that I'm interested in.

I'd say its not really to escape, but to go "What if?" I've always been a bit of a romanticist, and you just can't find any touching things in real life. Everyone's like, "Omg go bone that chick" and my response generally equates to : "..."

So I guess its trying to get a bit of fantasy/action/mystery/exhilaration in my life.

Ah, I'm just wondering. But reading manga a lot can be bad for your eyes and increase chances of diabetes.

I don`t know if it`s escapism
but reading an emotionally strong manga
during some hard times really chills me out biggrin

No, manga =/= escapism, at least for me.
I do not 'hide' in a manga world to escape from my problems or responsibilities. Because that's what escapism is - escaping, hiding from reality and the day-to-day prose of life, from problems.

However, manga is a break from everyday problems for me, but does not make me want to hide in the story line forever and forget who I am.

Ah, I'm just wondering. But reading manga a lot can be bad for your eyes and increase chances of diabetes.

And that can be counteracted by exercise, which other people use as a form of escapism. And still other people do their best to escape from exercise.

I don't use manga to escape from reality, but because I like stories. Of the ways available to fill my time, I find it to be one of the most interesting.

Anyway, I'm a firm believer in moderated epicureanism. Do it just shy of not being able to continue being one. It's best to be happy, afterall.

Manga = Drugs

I heard manga is illegal in some countries....

But seriously, everything taken to the extreme can be dangerous.

What about those Hikimori guys who seclude themselves and read manga and watch anime all day? What about the famous Otaku Killer? Is a guy that smokes some greens once a week worst than those guys just because he uses DRUGS?

Sports addicts, workaholics ......everything can be used to escape reality.
