There's a similar topic in the shoujo section. Figured might as well make one in the yaoi/yuri section ^^

I'll start, Finder. Really popular yaoi but I just don't see the appeal in it even after reading it 3 times. I really wish I would though.

Agreed. I don't hate it, but I definitely don't love it.

However, I do hate Koisuru Boukun, I cannot stand violent tsundere characters, be it male or female.

girl friends! I hate girlfriends. maybe because I'm a girl and it was made for guys. well, it bothered me, that there was too much of make-up, make-overs, fashion... if it wasn't there, the manga could be one volume long. and better. (probably because I hate such girls)

Finder is a bit bleh for me, but I really don't like Super Lovers, it is sooo terrible (imo, of course haha). Reading now the comments a lot of people don't like it too, but it has a high score on MU.

I felt exactly the same way with this manga. I couldn't finish it because all of the fashion tips and make-overs were way too boring. I find it especially weird that this a manga meant for guys, because I can't imagine that they would find this interesting either.

I find Finder to be boring and bland, Sekaiichi Hatsukoi has horrible art and mediocre story, Katekyo! is a pointless reading. I find Love Stage!! humor to be dry, Okane Ga Nai made me annoyed by how feminine Ayase is, and everything by Minami Haruka is a big no for me. And yes, I'm rather picky about manga.

I hate Junjou Romantica, Sex Pistols, Okane Ga Nai, and Koisuru Boukun. I dislike Finder and I found Love Stage!! to be annoying.

I haven't read Sekaiichi Hatsukoi so I can't comment on that (though if it's anything like Junjou Romantica, I will dislike it at the very least).

I wager guys would be interested in it if it came in that form. You may not subscribe to Men's Health but you would still be curious as to anything in the world of men that you don't deal with.

As for the topic...I don't hate or dislike many popular yaoi/yuri series. I just don't love them as much or find them as interesting. It's taking me forever to get interested in sasameki koto and then I lose the nerve to try popular yaoi of any sort.

Junjou Romantica - starts out rapey, and the guys just aren't good-looking enough for me to get past the wonky proportions. I tried, but I just don't like it.
Koisuru Boukun - I read most of this, but again, this is a coercive relationship, and the art is not to my taste.
Okane Ga Nai - Couldn't get past the first couple of pages. The uke looks like a girl, just really off-putting.
Café Latte Rhapsody - I'm still trying to scrub the aftereffects from my retinas. Ugh, the wimpy art and the bland story. It was like reading a story with two girls - nothing driving it. I read yaoi to see two men together.
Katekyo! - I tried to read this twice because it is so popular, but couldn't get past the first couple of pages.
Seven Days - This story would be exactly the same if it were a boy and a girl. It's OK, but I don't get why so many people love it.
Tsugou no Ii Kimi - I don't know how popular this one is, but OMG, he hits his seme over the head, then lies to him when the seme can't remember anything. Just break up already.

There are several mangaka I avoid:
KAWAI Touko
MINAMI Haruka
NISHIDA Higashi
SADAHIRO Mika - I've read several of her works, and decided I just don't like it. Too graphic, and the guys have ugly expressions.

Now, I love Finder, because even though it's rapey, Takaba isn't a girly-man who can't fight back, and they develop this consensual cat-and-mouse relationship. Also, drop-dead gorgeous drool-worthy men can make me overlook a lot of failings. eyes

On the other hand, I've assumed that Super Lovers wouldn't be something I'd like, but I think I'll give it a try, because the mangaka also does Hakkenden - Touhou Hakken Ibun, and I really like the anime.

I've read and liked some classic shoujo-ai, but as a rule I don't read it. Though I recommend Café Latte Rhapsody for yuri fans. laugh

I don't like Okane ga Nai, I just hate it when the ukes (or semes) look like or in any way resembles girls. I'm reading yaoi because it's male x male!

Also I find it quite annoying when either the seme or uke is crybaby. Well it's not really the crybaby part that gets on my nerves more like the way it's portrayed. For example Retsujou goes well for me but i can't stand the seme in Uwasa no Oujisama.

And have you noticed that some yaoi/shounen ai mangas are just like shoujo mangas but with guys? All the sparkle and fluttering hearts stuff. And the usual ''prince''. You know like in Heart Strings (which is surprisingly good).

Oh and I avoid everything made by MINAMI Haruka.

Everything that was mentioned in this thread + Totally Captivated (misplaced humor, too many chibi drawings, exaggerated drama and angst, gross part w/ the old guy) and warui series (all the ukes are annoying tsunderes and the semes are cool acting, possessive guys (though I kinda did like Mujihi na Anata).

Girl friends - every girl just talked about boyfriends, as if it was the most important thing in their lives. Also, it was too cutesy and boring.

Everything by Naono Bohra. She often has original ideas, but I don't like the way they are developed. Everyone praises her smut but it's exactly the same in every of her works.

Sakira's works. It's basically fap material, but the comedy ruins it imo. And just like Naono, the smut in every chapter is just a copy pasta.

To be honest, I hate almost every popular yaoi (with the exception of Yoneda, Suzuki Tsuta, and Hidaka Shoko's works) none

I avoid reading anything by Sadahiro Mika, Miyamoto Kano, Naono Bohra, and Minami Haruka.. I did read some of their works but I really can't get into it. Especially in the case of Sadahiro Mika... I can't really stand reading her works...

i dont like the finder series either...so much drama-rama and rape everywhere @_@ i hate domineering semes.

on a similar note i dropped koisuru boukun as soon as i got to the rape scene. i liked takanaga hinako's other series but this one is not for me.

i also don't like under grand hotel or most of sadahiro mika's other works. too much violence and rape ;/ seems just gratuitous at times.

i finished totally captivated but i wasnt blown away by it or anything, actually i thought it was quite forgettable. i dont understand why everyone goes crazy over it.

lol @ super lovers. it's a trap, i swear. i have no idea why i like it, it has so many things i hate!! i completely understand why some people stay far away from it, though. be glad you don't have to question your morals every time you read a chapter! ;_;!

what i find interesting is that while i could go on an endless rant about features of yaoi that i don't like (crybaby ukes, rape=love, the whole "i'm not gay, i just fell for someone that's the same sex") there aren't any particular manga that i can name as one that i hate. there are tons of yaoi manga that i find to be cliche, underwhelming, and boring, but there aren't any that i can say annoy me to the point that i hate them.

also, although there are features that i don't like, i am always able to find exceptions to the rule. @gwkimmy as in koisuru boukun. what's interesting about this manga is how they handle the rape differently from the rest of yaoi manga. so while you might still end up not liking this manga, i think you dropped it at the wrong point of the story.

Sex Pistols
I just hate this one. Pure, pure hatred... Since here men can even get pregnant, what's the point in yaoi mask? What is more, it smells like a praise of patriarchalizm*, misogyny, toxic relationships and extreme sexual objectification, treating people like incubators for making babies.

- Finder
All I can see is a rape-love fest. It may be readable but still... Uke is annoying and seme is a jerk... meh.

- Koisuru Boukun
- Super Lovers
totally mixed feeling about it.

- Sekaiichi Hatsukoi
- Junjou Romantica
- Okane Ga Nai
- Tsugou no Ii Kimi
- Self Portrait
- Kichiku Megane
- Sadistic Boy
- Animal X

so, if we are talking also about mangakas...
- most of Minami Haruka
- most of Nakamura Shungiku
- some of Kanzaki Takashi - for specific yet strange art... and sometimes for strange human relaionships... yep... her works are strange
- Chi-Ran

*sorry, it's a polish word, i couldn't find an english translation
